I really want a 2012 JK but...
6 months ago I bought a 2012 Ford Mustang. I got it at Z plan pricing + rebates so I did very well on the price. But I want a JK...now if I get a Jeep, I have to trade in the Mustang. Anyone have any luck emailing dealers to get a price quote on a basically new trade in? Should I just suffer Jeepless for another year or is there a way to make this work without losing my shirt?

Some dealers will give you a quote site unseen. They just need the vin and miles. Good luck but most dealers will low ball your trade.

Sounds like you didnt think it through. Why not get a used TJ and use it for a while, then decide if you want to sell the Mustang to buy the 2012 JK. You alraedy lost a crapload of money on the Mustang by trading it in.

This is a dealer's best dream. You will get raped on the price of the mustang so don't even count on getting near what you paid because you are trading in a used car. Talk to a dealer about pricing on the Jeep first, then offer your trade in and see what they will give you because then at least you dealed on the Jeep and can maybe suffer the loss of the mustang.
Why not just privately sell the mustang and get closer to what it's worth?

A lot of dealers have an Internet sales department that works pretty well. Never tried it myself but have walked in and dealt with them directly. Very easy to do, just know what you want for your car before you contact them and don’t mention a thing about your trade until you’re done negotiating a price for the Jeep.

Good point, the Mustang fever caught me, I admit it. I have owned a YJ and TJ in the past, and now have my heart set on a JK...I am sure after talking to a dealer, I will be back in the seat of the Mustang after seeing what they offer me for it

Yup...separate transactions. Never mention trade in until price for vehicle is agreed on.

Screw that, what’s the point of getting a used Jeep when what he want’s is a brand new Jeep with the new powertrain to boot?

Ya, I had a TJ for years, ready for some new style and power
I figured I could get a ballpark price of 2% under invoice on something in stock, does this sound about right?

If thats all, take the 5.0 out of the Mustang and put it in a TJ. Problem solved!

Join Tread Lightly ( http://www.treadlightly.org/) for $75 and for sure get at least 1% below invoice.

Treadlightly's the easiest, no haggle way.
But depending on the dealer and the amount of vehicles they sell...you can get 2%+ under invoice if you push hard.

Keep the trade and the Jeep purchase price 2 separate transactions but regardless in the end I think your butt's going to hurt !!

My friend actually just tried to do this (NYC area). He would have been $20-25k (he had not been paying on it long) under water (believe he paid around $65k after tax/reg) and they offered him like $40k for it. That's almost the price of a 2012 base JK unl sport in negative equity alone! Granted, his was a 2011... but still. Obvious low ball offer, but he didn't even bother negotiating.. heard it and walked.
Prepare to get hurt. Bad. It was a GT500 vert btw. Unfortunately they're pretty much worthless (not technically, but you know what I mean) since they announced that the GT500 was getting a large power bump soon so I would expect the price they offer you will be even less than what I saw happen to my friend.
So yeah.... good luck. I would still at least see what they offer you. Can't hurt.
