Basically the only reason I ask, is because when my dealer assures me that it won't work in a wrangler I want to tell him the correct set of Starscan instructions to follow. I'm guessing it's the one's on page 5.

I've got an 07 with just the single disc, but I'm guessing that's correct. Anyway, I've got an appt on Fri to have my oil changed, my brake recall done (which I'm hoping since they're using the starscan I can get them to do this for free). So, fingers crossed it'll all work well on a single disc 07.

I have two different manuals because I got one from Peiker and one that came with the kit. They were slightly different but the StarScan instructions were the same (I think). As far as the install just use the pics in the install file I made, the book has no reference of a Wrangler. When you get to the dealer give the service writer the manual (opened to page 5) for him to pass to the tech....but the tech has probably installed Uconnect before and knows the proceedure. The process is the same for all car models.

Make a deal with the service writer if he wants to charge. Tell him you'll give him the install directions and a ride around the block in your Wrangler to hear it, if he'll do it for free. Just remember the right button is Uconnect, the left button is radio commands when you're pairing the phone at the dealer before you leave the lot..... it takes about 2 minutes.

Give me some feedback on the install so I can update the instuctions if there's something wrong or needs better clairification. As far as I can tell you're the first RES radio install.

By the way, I might not have made it clear in my last statement, but the only thing the booklet that came with the Uconnect will be used for is the dealer.

I printed out the write up you made and in my opinion it's not just a great write up, but head and shoulders better than the factory instructions (although as far as instructions go, the factory ones aren't bad as compared to some I've seen). Your write up makes the install seem easy, and in a few hours when it's light out, I'm going to install it and I'm excited about testing it out, so thanks for all your hard work!

Ok, 58 mins and the kit was installed. If my hands weren't so big (along with the rest of me), I'd have had it done in around 45 mins. lol

Things of note:
1) The write up is in fact flawless, and made for a VERY simple install, so thanks RichC.

2) Getting the wiring harness to fit back behind the head unit was in fact a pain, as the instructions said.

3) If you decide to route as the instructions do, under the center console, and you've got big hands like me, I found the best way to do this quickly without fishing and scraping knuckles was to use painters tape and tape the mic to a ruler or other similiar stick and slide it through. Once it touches the other side I went around and took it out and ran it up behind the column as the directions state.

4) Fingers crossed that it'll work on a single disc 07 Sahara. I'm going to the dealer tomorrow to get them to run Starscan on it, hopefully free, since they're doing my G40 recall at the same time, but even if they charge, if it works, it'll be worth it.

Once again, thanks for an excellent write up! If I can do it in under an hour, anyone can.

Ok, first dealer did my G40 recall an then said they couldn't get the Uconnect working, after I explained to the service guy what I wanted done and showed him the instructions and left them on the seat for the tech.

I was told that it wouldn't work with the 07. I thought damn now I've wasted 200 bucks. While driving away from the dealer I noticed on the service slip it said, Uconnect not installed on Wranglers, no service performed (or something very close to that). I was not happy, so I took it to another Jeep dealership (luckily there are 2 10 mins from each other).

The second dealer said they'd never heard of it working in a wrangler, but when I told them what I'd done, they asked to see the instrucions, asked if I knew what kind of radio I had, since Wranglers were not listed, I told them RES. They said they'd never done it, but would give it a shot.

Well about 1.5 hrs later I have Uconnect enabled on my 07 Single CD Sahara. They said they couldn't figure it out at first, but actually had to call a number, etc, etc and then do it via starscan. So, there you have it.

I played with Uconnect on the way home (unfortunately my phone died), but I did get a few numbers programmed in. I need to read my phone's instructions though, because while it worked to make a call, the person on the other end was heard through the phone itself and not the stereo, which was odd.

It does also control the radio which is kind of cool if you want to go from say Faction (28) to Met Opera Classical (85) without spinning the dial. You can simply press the voice button and say "Faction" or "number 28".

Again big thanks to RichC, because I wouldn't have been brave enough to try it on my own.

Yes, .5 hr of labor, but it wasn't the dealership I bought the Jeep from. I couldn't wait til tomorrow. lol It was killing me not to have it done, so I drove to the closest one and then the 2nd closest. If it had been the dealership I'd bought it from I'd have "tried" to get it done free, since the lady who sold it to me raved about how great it was and told me it worked.

Still, for a total of $250 or so dollars I'm quite pleased. Even if I could have had a bluetooth unit way cheaper, this one's factory and makes my radio do everything it should have from the day I bought it.

And here's a crappy, at night, cell phone pic of the mic location. It's almost unnoticeable during the day and still picks up everything I wanted it to.

Edit: And the one that didn't even try to make it work, didn't charge me (I'd have *****ed had they tried).

Congrats!! The service writer gave me a little bit of the 'it won't work' stuff too. I persisted and gave him the instuctions and asked him to give it to the StarScan tech. About 45 minutes later it was back ready to go.

With your success it now confirms that 07 and 08's can be programmed, as well as both the REQ and RES radios. I never had any problems with my phone working with the unit. I have a Treo 700w. It can pair about 7 phones so you might want to try another phone to see if that ones works better.

On the radio commands; check out the menus when you're in modes. You'll get a different menu in Sat, AM/FM, and CD (or DVD). I like the fact in CD you can say "track eighty-two" and it will jump to that track.

I think it was just acting up because my phone was pretty much dead. I charged it and went back out to play with it and it was fine and worked perfectly. Thanks again RichC.

wow you guys must have Nice dealers... im trying to get this scheduled and the dealers are basicilly telling me i wasted my money that U-connect wont work on a wrangler, that its forbid by the factory to install the MOPAR kit on a wrangler due to noise issues.. 2 dealers have told me that, the 3rd I called said they had been told similar but would check with their GM to see if they would be allowed to try...

and here i had grand ideas of adding other features to this jeep not offered by te factory.. but that our PCM and system would handle, such as auto lights, power memory seats, and full EVIC capabilities.... wonder if I bought a starmobile I could do this myself...

Christopher,

I just received my kit yesterday, and planned to do the install over the weekend. Let me know if you are successful in persuading the dealer into doing this - he will have another one coming as I am also in CMH.

What dealers did you try? I purchased at Byers, so I was going to try them first.

I ought my Jeep from Crown and they were the first to say no-go but my salesman has since convinced them to give it a try, caldwell and nelson said absolute no.. trader buds said they might give it a shot depending on the instructions... if I get this working ill let you know which dealer did it.

I don't get why they don't want to do it (as the first tech flat out just said it wouldn't work and didn't try). They printed out, highlighted and handed me a bulletin that said Uconnect won't work in wranglers, as though if it were on the bulletin, I must be full of $hit and not know what I'm talking about.

Basically it's like this (as near as I can tell), Jeep decided that with the top off it'll not be of much use, and didn't want people scheduling servicea appointments to fix it, therefore they left it out. I don't get why they didn't just put a wind noise disclaimer saying that if you have your windows open or your top down, you're not going to be very happy with it. I think most people get that if wind is going right into a mic, you're not going to be heard.

Saying it's incompatible with the Jeep is only true until they go into the dealerconnect website, input our vins and add the code for "hands free module" as a "dealer installed option". Once that's done, the starscan procedure is run and everything the Jeep's computer needs is downloaded.

If they run StarSCAN without adding it to the VIN and if they're not connected to the internet at the same time it will not work. IF they follow the instructions exactly it should be done in no time.

Ok, so has anyone sprung for the $40 iPod adapter yet? I'm thinking that might be kind of fun. Although it'll have to wait now, since my iPod died yesterday 1 day short of a month after the 2yr extended warranty expired! lol Just my luck! And I didn't have it backed up to DVD!

Isn't all your music also on iTunes on your PC? If so, when you get a new one, sync it up and it will load all your music from your library.
