Vince, if youve got a digital camera I'd love to see a pic of the mic mounted. My kit should be here by the end of the week and I'm looking forward to istalling it. Thread's like these are the reason Jeep's are so expensive, but more importantly, fun.

This is ture... before I bought mine I thought if I got the top of the line model Jeep....the one I always wanted that there would be nothing more that I would want. Boy was I wrong. My list seems to be getting shorter but I imagine it will continue to grow. kinda Like cancer of the wallet except you enjoy the after effects.

I can confirm on the MyGIG the uconnect module is in the radio along with Bluetooth.
All that is needed is a Microphone and a software update.

There are products out there right now that can make all the cool features work on the MyGIG.
The U-connect kit will be coming from Mopar. I lets you speak instructions to the MyGIG for the Navigation and radio controls . I can't see it costing that much since it just a microphone and a software update. Not sure when it will be available.

I wonder if mounting the MIC up on the top of the center tower would pick up too much soft top noise.. im thinking of trying mine there or possibly on that little lip just below the radio and above the Power window switches.. but im thinking I might grab too much wind noise from the Panel vents... can a U-connect Gentex Mirror be purchased that would have the MIC in it or are those not available or incompatible?
ordered my kit however they said the Ipod cable wasnt in stock... so I'll have to hook up the U-connect and then do the IPOD cable later.

The mirror option would be nice. Maybe someone could answer this, has a jeep (tj or before) ever had a mirror that required power (powering lights on mirror). I saw an older jeep on the road the other day, and it looked to have a "powered mirror"? If so it should not be a problem to follow the same wiring to get the mirror mentioned above?

Yes. It will even pick up my daughter in the back seat. She has a tendancy to yell at it but it isn't necessary.

I thought the same thing about the noise from the vents... in fact if I try to use the Uconnect when the (unhooked) seat belt chime goes off, uconnect mistakes what you say every time.

Seems like I read either on this bord or the Project JK bord that some one used a mirror like this. I am thinking It could have been out of a dodge nitro... does any one else remember this? I might be intrested this if it proves to be reliable. Again I wonder about wind noise being up that high that why I chose to put mine where I did. As I said before I drove with all four windows down (on the highway)and was easily able to give commands.

at some point although im not sure the year the TJ got a compass / temp mirror (with map lights).. I had it on my 06 TJ.. the JK doesnt have any such option... I hate that they went backwards in this respect by not offering an auto dimming mirror with map lights.. im gonna look into the Nitro Mirror with the U-connect mic on it and also map lights..

Gentex is the company that makes all the inside "powered" mirrors for the chrysler products..
im thinking perhaps this mic
http://www.gentex.com/wn_microphones.html
might be available and do the job and attach to existing mirror.

http://www.mitocorp.com

is the company that consumers can buy gentex mirrors from. im gonna give them a call and see what they can come up with..

So, my kit is finally here, I'm going to install it in the morning, but wanted to confirm a couple things first. For anyone who's ordered, Rich or Vince, the instruction booklet comes with 2 sets of instructions (none of which are specific for the Wrangler), I'm guessing based on the picture on the cover, we use the ones starting on page 2.

Basically the only reason I ask, is because when my dealer assures me that it won't work in a wrangler I want to tell him the correct set of Starscan instructions to follow. I'm guessing it's the one's on page 5.

I've got an 07 with just the single disc, but I'm guessing that's correct. Anyway, I've got an appt on Fri to have my oil changed, my brake recall done (which I'm hoping since they're using the starscan I can get them to do this for free). So, fingers crossed it'll all work well on a single disc 07.
