Can you (or anyone else that is about to install this upgrade) test to see if the Uconnect will enable you to play media files saved to your phone?

Thanks,

I would have to say no, it won't. At least not through bluetooth.... not enough bandwidth. You can plug into the AUX port and it should work fine.

I have decided on putting the mic on the steering column just above the turn signal. I put enough slack in the cord (about 2") so the column can shift up and down. I had to put it up higher because some people were haveing trouble hearing me. It's too friggin cold to run without the tops so the final mic location is 'to be determined'.

Unfortunately the audio out on my phone is mini-usb and I have not found a mini-usb to 1/8" mini stereo, only mini-usb to ear buds. I guess I'll be cutting them off and doing some soldering.

I was wondering about that IPOD cable,.. in my current wrangler PCI bus ive got the IPOD kit which allows me to change the IPOD track and playlist with the radio controls... I wonder if that cable mentioned in the U-connect site using another Y cable would do the same? CAN bus technology is such that every device has its own address and therefore unless you cause interference or electrical noise you should be able to chain as many devices together as electrical limitations will permit... sure wouldbe nice if there was a way around the starscan and a way to program these ourselves.. I really would liketo explore other features such as automatic headlights, IPOD adapter, wipers on with lights, and etc etc that appear to be in other chrysler vehicles that use similar PCM's and also the CAN bus.. my theory is that all these more advanced features are available but just need a little hardware and to be turned live in the computer...

I was just going to ask how sensitive the mic was, seems like if people were having trouble hearing you with the top on, running with the tops off and using it might be trickier. I keep my Jeep's Top in one form or another on most of the time, so hopefully I can make do. Either way, it'll still be nice to make use out of something that should have been factory. Plus, who doesn't like new toys in their Jeep? lol

This is off-topic, but in star scan you can enable daytime headlights. You can also set your jeep to 'export' and it will allow you to use fog and hi beams at the same time.

A far as iPod and Uconnect, it's probably a late 08 or 09 featured release.... or it's out not but not advertised.

How can you turn on fog and high beams at the same time?

For all your hard/diligent work regarding your post: I got Uconnect working - w/o MyGig, I SALUTE thee. Pat yourself on the back and have a cold one for being such an altruistic/constructive person.

I got some info today, yes on Christmas Eve on the UCONNECT with the MYGIG System, unknown how accurate he is.

Quote:
it will NOT work on the RER unit. The RER already has a UConnect module in it, and for noise reasons, it is disabled when installed in a Wrangler. The ONLY way to get UConnect with the RER in a Wrangler (2007 and up), is via a 3rd party kit that is available.

Most of the Mopar sites that talk about the RER radio refer to the Uconnect as 'integrated hands free calling'. They also state that the hands free option is not available until 1stQ 08. That and the fact that the back of the radio has the Uconnect C1 connector (the center one) probably means that the Uconnect module is not part of the radio and will be an add-on soon. I'd sit tight for a few months to see what the solution is from Mopar. It might be what I just put in my Wrangler or something designed just for the RER radio.

Thanks everyone for the kind words on getting Uconnect to work! It became a 'mission' of sorts when the salesmen all told me it worked, only to have the service departments tell me it didn't. It didn't seem right that the same radio had Uconnect working with it in other Mopar models.

The only thing that has not been tested yet is how well it works with the tops off. It's going to be 30 outside with a 25 mph wind out tonight. The odds of me testing with the tops off......zero.

It does work well with the heater vents aimed straight at me and the fan on max. We all know how loud that is!

I mounted my mic just under my instrument cluster. it's inconspicuous and seems to work great. I went down the highway at 50 mph with all four windows down and the uconnect received all my commands in a normal tone of voice. I have ordered a new bluetooh capable phone and it hasn't arrived just yet so I don't know about talking with windows down on the phone yet.
