Hey good thread but if i could put in my 2 cents. With the car so new theres no real need to use full synthetic oil. When you start using that you should continue for the life of the car. Save some money and just use regular oil. And for the greasing question if theres a zert fitting then you should grease every oil change since your already under there. I don't remember if you should lift the tires off the ground or not but i know you should only put a little grease. To much and you will bust the seal and it will run all out. Stop before you see it coming out the sides.

Great write up.

The auto transmission fluid needs to be checked when it is warm, with the engine running. IE, you shouldn't just start the Jeep (or any other auto trans car) and check it cold. Go for a 10 minute drive then check your transmission fluid.

I more or less threw that step in there to show where the auto trans dipstick is- you are all correct- the best time to check it is when it is warm. However, there is no harm in checking it cold either (otherwise I don't think they would've put the 'cold' check line on the bottom of the dipstick)

Is there anything I should check on the manual trans for a 6000 mile service?

The fluid is about it, nothing mechanical.

I just wanted to say thanks to ZonaJeep. The great post and step by step allowed me to do my first oil change ever. My girlfriend kept asking who that man was under that Jeep turning a wrench.

Take the top cap off first, before pulling the drain plug. My .2USD is to leave oil and oil filter discussion to a different thread. Nice Job, like the pics.

Probably a stupid question, but...
Since the drain plug is towards the back of the pan, would it be beneficial to have the Jeep facing uphill? In other words, would that get more of the old oil out of the system while draining?
Or is this a stupid question? ![]()
