July this year, I traded a 45000 mile 2011 lifted Unlimited Rubicon I bought with 3300 miles for a 2014 "Special Order" Unlimited Rubicon in a color I wanted and leather interior. at 33k miles the 11's transfer case grenaded on a very steep rocky climb. My 14 now shows almost 7K on it with zero issues. Dealer gave me 5K less than I paid for the 11 and swapped out my "accessories" and sold me the new Jeep for well under sticker. I almost did not buy another Jeep until I drove a 13 with the Penastar. I am ecstatic about my new Rubi and it's way better wheeling performance. I wheel most everyday. My job is inspecting gas and oil pipeline construction and it performs so much better than the 11 ever did. I compared the 11 to the 14 on some seriously scary hills that only tracked equipment would travel up. My 11 3.8 couldn't make it to the top of the steepest one I attempted without tethering and being pulled up the hill via bulldozer. The 14 made it to the top the day I got it with 19 miles on it and never lost power during the hair raising climb. Yea, I am hard on my equipment but that is why I bought a Jeep. They hold up on these right of ways I spend my life on....most of the time! Warranties are great!

I understand. I woudn't trade a perfectly fine JK just to get another V6 that really don't have all that much more power and hasn't really had a good track record just yet. If I were in the market for a JK I might consider a brand new one but, if I have one I have already set up to my liking I'm not going to trade to really get the same exact Jeep minus the drivetrain change. What will I be able to do that I can't in the older JK? Just saying. Faster 0-60 times? Thats about it.

Soccer six in the mix.

I've read a number of posts where guys have traded their, relatively new, 3.8 JK for a 3.6 JK with [at least part of] the reason that the newer engine is better.

I've not read one post where someone got rid of their 3.6 for a 3.8.

If you're happy with you 3.8 good! I'm happy for you.

IMHO, the 3.6 is 'a break even/win' .... it is at least as good as the 3.8 and probably better.

Don't know of anyone [including you] who say the opposite is true. You keep saying the 3.8 'is as good as'....

well, maybe... but you cannot buy a 3.8, new, and you can buy a 3.6 new or used.

IMO the pentastar is perfect for the jeep. Very strong and peppy for this vehicle. They also put it in the full size dodge ram, and I have one with the 4.7L v8 and can say I can't imagine trying to tow anything with the v6 in the ram.

We looked at 3.8 jeeps and 3.6 jeeps and side by side you can tell a fair difference. If I had a 3.8 I'd be fine but given the choice we opted to get the 3.6. One thing I will say is that while I'm not complaining about mpg, I thought it'd be a hair better. My 4.7L v8 quad cab ram with intake/exhaust/tune and 100lb/ea wheels/tires gets better city and hwy mpg.

I have 2 2013s a two door and a four door. Both with around 8000 miles - no issues on each. Have 2 friends with 2012s, decent miles on both 25K+ - no problems with either of those. No head replacements. yet.

I am sold on this new Pentastar engine! I have had 2 so far not a lick or tick of a problem. To me its very important to use quality fuels with{ no ethanol added }. If you can't find a Gas station that has real gas, just use a fuel stabilizer. One of the findings Chrysler noticed on the ticking/ premature head failure thing, was poor gas was causing the codes to flair up. Now the 3.7 and 3.8 engines in my other older jeeps do ok. The 3.7 in my libby has over 135 k on it and does not use any oil over a 3k mile oil change interval. The 3.8 does us oil in between a 5000 oil change interval. I think this is due to the 20w-30 syn oil I use. This 3.8 has 40 k miles on it and runs great. The Pentastar engine avg 21-23 mpg's, at a current " break in " 2000 mile period....The 3.7 Libby gets 23-24 mpg's. The Wrangler 3.8 avg 18 mpg's on hwy Whats so funny is my 94 Cherokee gets over 25 mpg with the old 4.0L iron clad straight 6! I so wish they would bring back this motor!

Your 94 Cherokee weighs approximately 3,000 pounds (or 3/4ths of a JK) and has a frontal area perhaps 2/3rds of a Wrangler, which is why it gets good gas mileage. Weight and frontal area kill both performance and fuel economy. I had the same engine in my old LJ (same weight as my new JK) and it was a turd, both poor gas mileage *and* poor acceleration.

From a stand point of power, performance, and fuel economy, the Pentastar blows any previous engine ever shipped with a Jeep Wrangler or CJ into the weeds. It even has more torque than the AMC 305 V8 had. The only question mark left is durability. We'll see.

I have a 2013 Sport w/5000 miles on it. Absolutely ZERO problems. Getting stronger by the day as it breaks in.

Very impressed with the overall powerband of this DOHC engine!

I get 21 MPG highway driving 70-75 MPH. 19-20 not babying it.

I just think its possible that my 94 Cherokee may out last the modern jeeps I now have. You can't kill these old jeeps imo.

The Pentastar has had a great start. But will it finish well? We will see.

Look my last jeep was very expensive I am on your side.

I have almost 26k on my 2012 I bought back in August of 2012. Its had 0 problems, except the A/C issue(it turns off for 3-5 seconds) dealer hasn't figured it out yet.

We all have that... I have 2 2013s - they both do it....

Its clearly a bug in the software. Its only on hot days - and only with the A/C running - and it only does it once per key cycle....

They will deny its a problem until they come out with a flash for the computer that fixes it.....
