That's actually pretty cool they took care of you like that...I'd call it a win/win as long as this one cooperates.

I've read of a few, and friend who is a Jeep tech said some of the early 13's had the problem, so who knows. He said he didn't know if they had the AC or the AB head..............................

All of you with head issues, whether your dealer was good to you or not, you could do the Jeep community a great service by simply reporting your experience to the NHTSA. If you could generously take 5 mins to file a complaint here: https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/ there are many that would greatly appreciate it whether they know it now or not.

Manufacturers will rarely do any more than they have to unless they start feeling the pressure from the NHTSA and the only way to realize this is from the number of complaints received for a specific issue.

Many of us will be coming into their last year of warranty in a few months and some have low enough mileage that this issue wouldn't be evident until after warranty expiration. If enough complaints exist with the NHTSA, replacement after factory warranty may be possible and likely easier (less dealer hassle) for those still under warranty.

Thanks

Is the ticking that people are experiencing only when at low rpms? Since this is my first jeep (2013, built in may 13) and haven't driven any other jeeps, im not sure what to listen for. I do know that when driving at speed and pushing on the gas it sounds like a lawn mower...but wasn't sure if that just the way its supposed to sound. its a 6 speed manual.

Where can you find when yours was built if you didn't order it? I bought my '14 JKU three days ago. I hope they got all the bugs worked out by now...

50,000+ 2012 JK no problems so far. Bought Feb 2012. Great vehicle, 18 to 20 MPG on the road. Pulls motorcycle trailer well. I love my jeep.

I think you can only file an NHTSA report if there is a safety problem, as in, fire, accident etc. Cylinders ticking and being replaced is stretching the mandate.

That said, why not, it gets managements eye's on the fact people know what's happening and maybe they will proactively recall. I mean they are doing a full bore push to solve an unheard off tranny/power steering leak, why not a slightly more important head problem?

In my case, my 2013 is absolutely silent under the hood, night and day compared to my defective 2012 which ticked noticeably the day I drove it off the lot and never really seemed worse when it threw codes for bad head.

Certainly a consideration however they do not specify safety-related only complaints and if you read the complaints most are not as well. They have you select if fire, accident, etc. was involved. Like you said, can't hurt.

We got our jeep last month with 20k miles, had a list of services provided by the dealer to the PO. It was just regular maintenance and the transmission line recall. We have only put about 1k miles on it so far. The CEL did come on about two weeks ago, came up as a cylinder 6 misfire. It was still running fine so I decided to clear it and see if it comes back. So far so good. We got the warranty extended to 100k miles anyhow, so we aren't too worried.

My 2012 has not had any head or tick issues.

I have over 15,000 miles on the clock. This Jeep gets used. I dumped the factory fill oil at around 100 miles (used PYB for break in), then dumped that at 500 miles (again with PYB) and started using full sun at 1000 miles (Pennzoil Ultra, Platinum and Mobil 1 EP)

My trips usually have the Pentastar seeing redline or close to it almost every drive.

There was a point where I was at 4800 RPM for over 2 hours constantly coming back from Overland Expo in Arizona. Had no issues, this thing likes to rev.

So far so good. I do all my own maintenance on this thing.
