I do in my 13, but it seems my problems with the "engine" and I mean engine as it driveability, stumbling and power and my TWO check engine lights are from a computer issue. 2,500 miles and two trips to the dealer for it. :livid: So in short, it is not from the original issue of this thread. lol

I was pulling the service records of a Jeep i'm looking to purchase. 2012 with 26,800 miles. Back at 18,000 miles it went in for a new head. Nothing since then.
Should I be concerned? It's at a dealer today getting a pre-purchase inspection. I'll listen for any ticking when I pick it up. What exactly am I listening for? (My car now is a Mitsubishi Ralliart, that engine is perhaps the most loudest engine ever).

Just had my PCM reflashed through TSB 18-007-12 at a dealership outside of town under the powertrain warranty. Local dealership A won't touch my Jeep because of its lift and local dealership B wanted to open up the engine and swap its cylinder heads around in order to diagnose the problem (and subsequently charge me for it).

I'm just a hair under 38k on mileage. The CEL, which has been on for almost two weeks straight now, actually turned off this morning on my way up to the dealership. Nonetheless, codes P0300 and P0302 were still pulled. If the CEL comes back on, they'll replace the head under warranty.

you should be fine. i've put on about 6000 miles since having the cylinder head replacement at 20000 miles. it runs great, very smooth.

the engine has a sort of tick sound to them anyway, it's the nature of the VVT engine. with some people having the head issue, it was very loud on one side. mine didn't have the tick, it just through up the engine code for it.

CEL came back on today, so it looks like it's going in for a new head.

Mine came back on today, code p0304 again. Maybe i'm going deaf but I really don't here a ticking I would call beyond average for a VVT overhead cam aluminum block motor.

Appt at dealer today, we'll see what I get for a run around. My issue is this is not the only issue this jeep has had, long list of stuff.

Just back from Jeep, my p0304 code is solved, I traded in my 2012 for a 2013. Hope this one sticks.

Not the cheapest way, but I can say they made an effort to make me whole, i'm basically even with one more year of car payments and a one year newer vehicle. A wash. They sided with me and once I showed them the list of 22 defects, 11 dealer visits, one repeatable to four times, total time at their shop over 25 work days, more if you count the weekends in the 15 months since purchase. I'm already getting better gas mileage (18) out of a jeep that has 12 miles on it than I did after 15000 miles on the 2012 (15).

Yep, hope not, but I'll give jeep one more shot as it is the only 4x4 game in town for the trails I plan to hit. I saw the writing on the wall. This same type of thing happened to me in a BMW 15 years ago, started as a few folks, then hundreds, then a complete recall, then a collapse in vehicle values. I know the 2012 have dropped in value as I checked on trading it in four months ago on a whim during an oil change, but the hit was to great. After the negotiation today, they upped their offer about 4K in goodwill.
