Let's not pretend this problem, which so far is impacting about 2% of the people with early 2012s and nobody else, is the end of the world.

No they're not but when the dealer is "fixing" them and the problem seems to come back thats troubling. If it really is a small number of Penstars, thats good.
Hopefully they get a permanent fix for this and it doesn't turn into the OPDA problem of the 05-06's.

Agreed. It would be nice if they actually just fessed up what the specific problem is...but they don't want to draw any attention to it.

Confirmed. In the shop to have the head replaced for the second time. How can only 1% be bad?

Nobody has any idea how many have exhibited problems. It's somewhere between 0 and 100%, and since it's never hit the news it's probably closer to the low end. It's not a safety issue so we'll probably never get any hard info.

~2200 miles and not an issue. The 3.6 is a million times better than the 3.8.

Time will tell. The 3.8 has been in use for 21 years. The 3.6 for 3 years. Any motor needing head replacement this soon is unacceptable imo.

A head is never acceptable on a new or newer engine, but I've seen issues similar as a new platform is introduced. I still have not seen this as a widespread issue at all. My remark on the 3.8 is from a driveability and maintainable stand point. Having owned the 3.8 I would never be cursed with it again.

Just turned 21000 miles last night. No issues. No warm up. Hard driving. I change my oil every 7-8,000 miles with royal purple synthetic. Not that that makes any difference

I test drove a 2011 and a 2013 to see the difference and ended up getting buying a 2013 Rubi 10A. I would vote for the Pentastar more power and I believe better MPG's as well.

I agree completely. They really messed up with the gearing on the 3.8 making drivability not all that great.

Just bought a '13 JK unlimited sport at the end of June with the Pentastar. No ticking or anything so far and have put about 600 miles on in 10 days.
