I have 36,500 on my 2012. Took delivery on 11/11/11. Switched to Mobile 1 last oil change. It is not a quiet motor but I don't hear any disturbing tick. I have a 100k drive train warranty so I2 am not going to worry about it.

I bought my 12MY JK used a little over a month ago with 23k on it and have put a little over 1k on it myself. It was built in May 2012. I have not had any issues nor is any ticking audible. What happened before I got it is up in the air. Do the dealerships put any kind of sticker under the hood stating the head was replaced per TSB or anything??

They may be able to tell you the history of any service prior if you ask them.. depends on your service advisor I guess.

Look above the radiator. When my last JK had its drivers side head replaced the dealership put a foil sticker with a few codes stating what work they did and time stamped it.

Bought mine last March, about 22,000 miles and still ok. I'm waiting for it though.

I got mine in june and at about 5000 or so the "clicking" started and i got the dealership to fix it no problem. There is now a recall i believe. They replace the piston heads and now I'm at 16 almost 17000 and its running just fine.

No recall They wont even say what or why*.

what are piston heads? They replace heads .

They would not replace the pistons or it would be far easier to just replace the motor.

*The lastest info was the at Jeep says it may be to special gas and or use that may be causing this. Before that it was casting and or material issues, before that and eary on before it was in the wrangler" mase in mexico issues"


Fact is they are going to sit on it. Replace the one's that complain or toss the . "dead head code"P203etc.

There is almost never a voluntary recall in the automotive industry. This is a tiny problem that the overwhelming majority of customers will never face. Why on Earth would Chrysler volunteer to pay a couple thousand dollars in parts and labor to do this job to every potentially-impacted vehicle? It makes vastly more sense for them to wait until a customer complains and do it then.

I've got 18k miles on mine. 0 problems. Get it serviced at the dealer every 4k miles and call it good.

August of 2011. The dealership here cleared the code and wants me to wait until it returns before taking action. There is no ticking noise, so hopefully it's a bad plug or wire and its just coincidence that it's cylinder 2.

Chrysler dealerships in my city will do whatever they can to avoid repairing modified Jeeps. I certainly don't expect them to cover things that I damage or break on wheeling trips, but if they so much as see a lift or a new set of tires, they freak the **** out. That being said, I have yet to take a Jeep to one of the local dealerships here and have them repair it correctly the first time without giving me any BS. Dropping a Jeep off, having the dealership address the issue correctly and in a timely manner (ie: getting the job done right the first time), and getting it back to me without any grief has never happened.

I had to take my Jeep to a dealership outside of the county to get my TOB replaced that ate it at 2,500 miles. The two dealerships here wouldn't fix it because my skidplate was dented, which signified "excessive vehicle abuse" resulting in "massive damage." This was before I even lifted it. The service tech at one dealership was actually surprised and upset at the fact that I took my vehicle with the word "Rubicon" affixed to the hood onto trails that feature dirt and rock surfaces.
