How many have Pentastar engines that are OK?

I have an 08 and I'm thinking of getting a 2012.

I've got a 2012 and no problems so far. I can really feel the power. I have driven an 08 that was a friends and then I drove mine and you can really tell a difference. You should ask a dealer to let you test drive a 2012. You will love it!

The vast majority are fine. You hear about a few here and think they're all bad but even those here are a small portion of jeeps sold, let alone all the Chrysler vehicles that use this engine, otherwise there would be a recall.

The problems seem to be concentrated on the earlier builds.

^^X2 From what I have seen most of the problems seem to be with the earlier builds. Mine has 4500miles..no issues (knock on wood) and a build date of March 30th 2012.

The earlier builds thing is a myth. You normally don't start getting the MIL/check engine codes until about 10,000-12000 miles. Mine ran great even when it was erroring out. The clue is does it tick or not. If you go to the dealership and start a half-dozen of 2012's, you will here ticking on 3-4 of them. That ticking will get progressively worse until eventually you get the P0302 error or something similar. The Jeep will still run fine, but you will notice a slight hit in fuel mileage. I know someone with a Feb build date that just had a head replaced. They only recently determined the cause and I don't think they have implemented a fix in production yet. My driverside head was replaced a few months ago and mine is starting to tick again. I'm guessing that around 25,000 miles, it'll start to throw codes again.

Interesting. Following the threads, you certainly get the impression it is just the earlier builds but, then again, earlier builds are more likely to have accumulated enough miles to exhibit the problem than later builds.
