How cheap can you go? 25?

How's it going everyone!
I was initially in the market for a taco, but man those things are pricey. I make enough money to afford a decently priced truck +30k but still in school, buying a house, and proposing (after 7 years I think it's about time haha) anyways I have my finances divided everywhere.. I have a 370z which I hate.. so was hoping to not get too into debt while getting into something where at least my dog fits.

So question is how cheap can I get a 2 door jeep? I Hear some don't come with AC.. at least AC and power doors would be nice. Tacomas are close to impossible to get a deal on. What's the concensis on jeeps? Not in a rush.. I also usually email every dealership in the state for a good price lol.

Is 25k after TTL out of the question?

I got my 13 manual transmission, manual doors/windows, it does have AC and the only option was 3.73 gears for 23,500 Plus TTL.

Not sure on current price, but at the time to get power windows/doors put you in the next model up which was a few thousand more base price. You also got 17" alloy wheels instead of the 16" steel wheels and I think there are some electronic upgrades standard. 25k with TTL may be pushing it just a little bit. Will probably end up closer to 30k

I don't know your timeline but they're going to sell the JK along side the JL for a bit, and I believe I read somewhere the JK will get a decent discount.

currently the msrp on a sport adding only the 3.73 (to get the large carrier) is 25090 so I would say yes - if your ducks are lined up for an easy sale, (the less work the sales person has to do the better the negotiation) offer 25 with A\c... if you're taking inventory off their hands when they need it - (which of course may give up color choice) - you may even get a hard top.

He wants power doors, so that will move him up to the next trim level though.

If he is willing to give up power windows/doors, 25k will be doable.

Wow after hearing this I feel like I got hosed when I got my 14' new... manual trans no power options and 3.21's only good things were the hard top and uconnect and it's anvil but I walked out the door at 32k(afterTTL) and your saying I can get the same thing with 3.73 for 25-30 after TTL? Too bad I really want to get my hands on a JL scrambler 2 door (hopefully) or I would trade mine in haha

hard top and uconnect (requires radio upgrade as well) would drive price 2000 (995 on top and 915 on ucon/radio)...

Yep, to get power windows you have to move all the way up to the Big Bear - add ~5000 to base.

I picked my 2012 up for 22k (hard top, A/C, power doors, and 3.73), but I was extremely lucky to be in the right place at the right time.

I was at the dealer having a look and a couple came in with 800 miles to trade for a 4 door.

Actually, on my next tank of gas I will cross 100,000 miles. It's been a good vehicle.

Wow a lot of questions unanswered or asked.

What do you want to buy new or used?
What are your plans with it? Mall crawler or off roader?
Do you have Kids you need to haul around? How about large dogs etc?
Do you need to haul stuff on a regular basis?

Do you want a two door JK or a four door? Auto or stick?

We can all sit here and say yup or nope it can not be done. The trick is can you find a deal in your area that you are comfortable with paying for.

I would (if you have not driven one or anything like this), then rent one for a weekend. See how you like it and how it works for your needs. I am not sure where you can rent a Taco but if you can find one see how it meet your needs. Pay attention to the power, comfort, and just how well it works for you. Can you find a JK for $25,000 or less, the answer is yes if you want used, or pretty much no if you want new with certain options.

Good luck

-I would prefer new, but used isn't entirely out of the question

-plans: Id like to say it would be out seeing trails every weekend but the reality is 90% of it's life it'll be a mall crawler. I do however travel a lot (road trips). A lot as in miles, every year I'll take one or two long trips across a few states, last year we crossed 4 states. Chances are it won't see any rock crawling, maybe more of an "overland" type of rig if I had to label it.

-no kids, just me and my girlfriend. We do have a 70lb pitbull. I'd love to take her with me when we travel but she's young and kinda crazy so we probably won't until she gets older and calms down a bit. Without the back seats I think she would fit fine.
I also never haul anything other than our travel gear/clothes. If I really needed to haul anything Large like wood or anything like that I can always call my dad to loan me his pick up truck. So I have access to that if ever needed.

-I really don't want my current car anymore but also need to keep the cost of the new car down as much as possible. A 4 door jk would be cool, but I'll take the 2 door to keep cost down. Stick or manual? I've driven manual for close to 8 years, Im a little tired of it. I would prefer an auto trans but stick isn't out of the question depending on the price differences.

Not sure if I mentioned it but I would also like a 4x4! and renting one actually sounds like a solid idea. thanks!

For those without peer anything, how do you like it? Ever miss having the power option and/or can I add it later on?

Also, what's the advantage with the 3.73 gears?

Advantage of 3.73 is more power at the wheels in lower gears and RPM. Power stuff can be added latter but the cost is stupid high and it is not so easy to do.

I have a 14 JKU I leased for 3 years, to see if the wife would like it. It is a Freedom edition. She liked it so I bought it out at the end of the lease. You might give that a shot also.

No kids now and originally bought my JK for the wife. It's what she wanted and we have had various other Jeeps over our lifetime so we knew about handling, comfort, etc. The JK is miles in front of the old YJ in regards to drivability and comfort.

Bought a stock Sport, AC but no power anything and 3.21 gears. As it was originally going to be a mall crawler, these were not an issue. Now it's mine and I wheel, so it's transforming. Lockers, lift, tires and 4.56 gears as I plan on ultimately going to 35's and 3.21 gears on the 33's was marginal. Without the back seat, there is plenty of room for dogs and gear if you don't take the kitchen sink with you.

For our use now, if i knew back in 12 when I bought it, I would have gone with a Rubicon, however other than the 4:1 transfer case, I'll be there and more shortly.

An overlanding concept would probably want something larger in tire size than the stock 29" tires so get the 3.73 gears now.

If your money is tight, why buy a new one? I got my 07 in 08 with 10,600 miles for 22,500. Dual top, 4.10, Sahara. 5yr 80K extended warranty since the new vehicle lifetime is not transferrable. Also, Jeep isnt honoring those without a fight anyway.... Only opt it didnt have was nav. I had to fly to Etown PA to get it. There are deals. You might need to look wider than just your state. Look for some a couple years old lightly used. Dont pay the premium.
