The hood goes all the way back

I know that probably everyone on the planet already knew this - but just in case some of you don't already know, I thought I would post this....

Today I was working on electrical issues in the engine bay (stuff with the battery), and I just didn't have enough room to get on what I was trying to get on with the wrench. I had the hood propped up with the little stick thingie that is used for this purpose. Then I decided to see if I could move the hood back even further. Sure enough - you can swing it all the way open until it hits the windshield. So, I carefully moved it back as far as it would go, and let it rest on the windshield while I did my work - and it was SO much easier!!

Anyway - I just thought I would let people who didn't know this already that this is possible. It's also one reason why one might wish to NOT put in some of those aftermarket hood shock thingies, since they would restrain how far it can open.

Yep it goes all the way back, can make it much easyer, I had a samurai and it had a piece of rubber on the windshield frame specificaly to set the hood on it so it would not scratch the hood. Oh did I just admit to having a samurai once? Damn.

Ummmm, yeah. All previous generations of Wranglers, CJ's, and vehicles of that lineage had this feature as well.

Remember to put a towel or something betweent the hood and the top. If the engine is running, the vibration will scratch the hood.

I do that anyway. I was thinking of gluing a thin rubber pad on the center of the windshield frame.

Also, keep in mind the wind can blow it shut on your head.

Bungie-strap the hood to the back bumper - problem fixed

Thats why some Jeeps have a small indent on the hood. The TJ has a small indent on both sides, guess i threw it up too hard once or twice.

The ability to open the Jeep Hood all the way and lay it on the W/S frame is a design offset to compensate owners for the torx head bolts they used to hold the vehicle together. Enjoy the hood opening feature when you can so you can curse the torx bolts when you feel like it, you will have earned the right!
