I'm at 80,000!Alot of long road trips.Still fine but it uses up oil. It's been doing that since 30,000 miles though.Thought it was leaking at first but no leak it just uses it.

Mitsubishi had/has nothing to do with the 3.3L/3.8L pushrod engines - they're all Chrysler. In fact, Chrysler developed them to get away from using the 3.0L SOHC Mitsubishi V-6 that they were purchasing from Mitsu for a variety of reasons. The 3.0L Mitsu engines were famous for valve guide and other valvetrain issues.

It's doubtful that it's a head gasket. It's more likely that it's a porous front cover. Tell your dealer to look at TSB 09-008-07 for some clues on how to diagnose the leak to a front cover porosity issue.

I'm around 55,800 miles now. So far:
- Leaky top
- Cracked Header Bow
- Replaced Spark Plugs+wires
And now my new feature is the death wobble.

The 2008 Jeep Wrangler is not so much an SUV as it is an experience. It's slow and loud, handles poorly, has crummy interior materials and features doors that provide virtually no crash protection. But when it comes to off-road performance, the Wrangler is simply the best choice available.

27,000 Flawless Miles... I got a drywall screw in one tire but that doesn't really count.
As far as oil 5-20 is what this motor is designed for... Why would Jeep specify an oil that would prematurely wear out the engine and at the same time provide a Lifetime Warranty? I use Mobile 1 and although it is thin as water, I've seen no signs of metal when I change the oil.

61,000 VERY HARD miles - turning 34's on a 3" lift for every bit of it. It gets wheeled weekly and road tripped often - sometimes road tripped FOR wheeling. It runs and drives like the day it was new.
only problems are a little steering clunk still, and I have a rattle in the back from where all my tailgate welds popped from the big tire on the spare - I can't blame that solely on Jeep.

Perhaps a Hummer is better suited for you.

I had an 08 that I put over 40k on with not 1 trip to the shop. I just bought an 07 with 82k on it, it seems to be okay but not as nice as the 08. I learned my lesson with a lease though, I wish I would have just paid cash for the 08 and called it good Oh well, I can do whatever I want with this one which is a big plus.

Looking at an 07 Unlimited Sahara with about 80k on the dial...trying to decide if it's worth saving money buying with the higher miles, or paying another few grand for one with half the miles.
If it's anywhere close to reliable as my TJ's then the miles don't bother me. From what I'm reading it's a mixed bag on the problems so think I might roll the dice...
I'll get a warranty though just in case!

I personally use 5W-30 Mobile-1 synthetic oil, but never felt comfortable about 5W. All my other cars I use 10W-30 Mobile-1.
If you look back same exact engine for 2002/3/4 models FSM specifies higher weight... for latter year models 5W-20... and this is designed to reduce engine friction in order to increase fuel mileage.
The 5W represents how eaily oil flows, thereby helps cold cranking start in extreme cold weather. Well, in the South it doesn't get too cold in the winter. May be 32-35 degrees in January.
|
The viscosity of a certain weight oil is constant at engine operating temperature. That's the point of the weight. You stated that you are running a thicker weight oil because of the hot temperatures in the south. Unless it is hotter than 180 degrees (around the operating temperature of the engine) then the viscosity of your oil is the same viscosity of my oil in Colorado in the dead of winter.

17,500 miles with no problems so far. I bought it in March of 2009. I got tired of digging my GMC truck out of the sand when I had to leave the pavement. I am a real estate appraiser and the miles so far are either work related or beach trips.

Taken it on the beach yet? Mine is a beach Jeep hardcore, I never let air out and it's a beast.
