Hard top leak?

Today we had the first amount of measurable rain since I installed the hardtop on my jk. So, after work, as soon as I made my first turn from my parking space, I heard water running for a few seconds, and then stop. I presume this was just water running off the roof, but it sounded like it was INSIDE the vehicle.

When I got home 10 minutes later, I opened all the door and felt all the floor areas and none of them felt wet. I just figured the rain was running off the roof. But when I checked the well under the rear floor, the gloves I have inside are wet. Not soaking wet, but damp. The door to that area is NOT wet. The rear carpet is not wet. It is not wet on the insde of the rear window or tailgate.

Any idea where the moisture is coming from INSIDE the well???

there are drain plugs under the carpet there. Are you sure those plugs are in?

I have not seen the drain plugs, but I will check. The question though, why would it be wet in there anyway?

Check your rear window gasket. mine leaks, drips into the wiper motor cover then drips to the floor. The fix is to pull on it a bit and it seats better on the rear window.

You might want to check the two screw plugs on the hard top right by the top rear speakers. Mine has water in there and it ran down behind the seat belt garnish on the door frame wetting under the driver seat.

I bought a 2008 Unlimited Sahara from a private seller. There was a heavy rain the night before in SC where I picked it up. When I got home I was looking around and noticed the same problem. There was no indication of where it was coming from. I took the cover off the storage well and popped the carpet up in the air. I soaked up a bunch of water with a towel and then just left the carpet popped up for a few days to dry real good. Apparently it had been leaking for a while because there was a noticeable odor(mildew). I messed around with the gasket around the rear window and haven't had a problem since other than very slight leakage around the corners of the window/tailgate seal. I figure the water came in around the tailgate/window seal and just rode the body underneath the carpet to the low spot. That's just the nature of a hardtop Jeep. With a little patience you should be able to track it down and fix it.

Criminy, there was a full inch of water in the well. I pulled the drain plug and it is now running out.

I dont see any obvious issues with the rubber seals around the rear glass. I will keep looking.

Check your two "T" tops, for water inside, some times they take on water thru some vent holes and could leak down thru the b pillars, into the cargo area

Good luck
