Half Doors for the JK

Let me start by saying... I have a company that manufacture's aftermarket automotive products. I'm not going to say what company because I don't want there to be any confusion with this post. I'm not trying to drum up sales, I'm looking for input.

I am exploring the idea of making fiberglass and/or carbon fiber half doors for the JK. The 2 door JK should be simple but the 4 door version poses a problem with that B-Pillar in between the two doors. I don't like the idea of half doors with that B-Pillar spear there.

My questions -

Are the Half Doors something the JK owners would be interested in?

Also, as for the B-Pillar... How comfortable would you 4 door owners be with cutting that off or is that important?

They should be pretty reasonable.

Do you have 2 door or 4 door? If 4 door, how do you feel about the B-pillar?

Fiberglass would be first. Carbon could be done from the same molds for those who want something different.

For the fberglass gurus out there... it would be all woven cloth. I would not chopper gun any of our products.

I know we wouldn't be doing metal but we'd probably do ABS plastic if there's enough interest. That would bring the cost down even more.

Was looking For Doors Today

I was looking through catalogs and the internet today for half doors.
Just got 4-door JK and with spring coming, want the top off and some side protection. Would be interested in half doors for sure! Not too interested in cutting though. Hope to see this product available soon.

The cutting would be optional if it was done at all on the 4 door. You would need to have that B-Pillar there when the full doors are on.

Most likely we'll make the doors in the very near future and later try to figure out a good way to make that B-Pillar disappear.

The B-Pillar is the part in question. That is the thin body panel that is in between the front door and rear door. If you want to have that flat look from the front door all the way back you would need to cut that off at the level of the half door.

I don't think it's critical to cut it but if you're picky like I am you may not want it there.

The B-pillar is probably not an issue with most 4-door owners. I think they (like me) want 4 half doors regardless of the status of the B-pillar.

What' exactly is wrong with the B-pillar? Doesn't look that bad. Adds strength.

i'd definitely be interested in half doors. abs would be my first choice, because it's cheaper, and if i gouge the crap out of it, it won't break my heart (though fiberglass may be a smoother repair job...). they would have to be sturdy enough to support soft uppers though, i live in an...unpredictable....climate.

I'm not suggesting that the B-Pillar be cut and then it be completely open on the side. I'm envisioning a roll bar addition in its place. You would want to have something there for the rigidity of the roll bar and the Jeep itself.

I'm convinced that it would look better without the B-Pillar there but I'm wondering if it's worth the hassle. If the answer is "I guess it looks better" or "It doesn't really matter to me" then it's not worth the hassle of cutting it.
