Had my first JK break-in...

On my way to work yesterday morning, I open the glove box to get the ipod out. No ipod, no GPS, no SunPass (prepaid tollway thing). I call back to my building and the guy in the office says he'd ask around. He calls me back about an hour later and says one of the ladies upstairs saw the sheriff's office arrest someone early in the morning down the street.

I called the local sheriff's office and she says I need to file a report so they can link it back to the original one with the arrest. Since I work in a different city than I live in, I waited until I got home that night and reported. A officer came out, dusted, took my inventory and left.

An hour later a detective called and told me he would stop by that night. He knocked on the door with my GPS, ipod and sunpass in hand. Took a statement and that was that.

From the time I reported the theft to the time he brought my stuff back was about 90 minutes.

CLIFFS - Always remember to lock your glove box.

That's some luck! Great job from the Po-Po.

You live in So. FL and leave things in the jeep?

I never leave anything inside (locked in the box or not). I've had too many things disappear from my jeeps in the past. (plus had the top knifed once too).

Shocker.
I read your thread title and the 1st thing that went through my head was "he must live in Miami". I looked at your location and had to shake my head.
I used to live down there and I don't regret leaving one bit. Not that Tampa is much better, but its night and day compared to SoFL. I spent 20 years in Cooper City. I've never seen so many little rich kids who think they're thugs - they are everywhere.
One thing I can say is that I've heard lots of bad pub. on BSO - I'm happy to hear they stepped up. You got lucky.

Yep, that was great that you got your stuff back. I carry a light back pack and when I leave the Jeep, my stereo head, gps, anything that is not glued down, goes in the pack and goes with me. In Jackson, MS, it would have probably been the cops that stole it. Glad I no longer live in Jackson.

Thats really lucky that you got all your stuff back, that was prob like a one in a million chance that they caught the guy that stole your stuff. Just a quick question, was your soft top down or were the doors just unlocked?? Was there any damage to the jeep itself??

Count me in on the "Wow, you have great cops in your area!" sentiment. I'm typically very pro-police officer, but in NY / Long Island, I have never heard of anyone ever having a response like that... Usually you phone in the report and that's about all that happens. We just had someone in our area robbing trucks at the train station and on my street... My pop's truck was broken into in the driveway, though he fortunately had nothing really worth taking.

( On the plus side, that break-in on the driveway was the little bit it took to push my other half into finally relenting to me picking up a new shotgun to keep loaded and under the bed! )

Dont leave anything you woulnd mind giving away. Even if you lock the glove box. They will break in and see that its locked which means its hiding something and then you will have to replace half your dash too.
