Yeah, now they need to realize that people are ok with 14mpg (Jeep and fuel economy don't go hand in hand) so how about the "Oops could of had a V8" comment also be made by them and the customers will opt for the V8.

I would NOT be surprised if a small V-8 could actually get better mileage in the Unlimited. The combination of high throttle position angles and engine load required to move the 4300 lb machine, cries for deeper gearing, or a bigger engine.
THe 4.7L would probably not happen due to it being a relative expensive engine to manufacture. Heck, I'd even take the old 5.2L / 318 cu.in. if it was offered.
I'm also hoping (key word here is HOPE) that the new 62TE auto finds its way into the Wranglers. DCX is going to use it in the mini vans with the 3.8L, so I hope the odds are better than zero.
The new lower first gear would make for a killer crawl ratio for the autos. With the torque amplification of the torque converter, the crawl ratio would be around 135:1 on the Rubicon model!
The JK is a huge improvement over the TJ. I had gotten a jk unlimited for my wife about a month ago and mounted 33s on 15s and threw on a bb. Ever since then, i never wanted to drive my 06 rubi. So when a dealer offered me a red rock sahara (4:10, lsd, freedom top, power package, 18" wheels) for invoice, I traded my 06 rubi in for the JK.
I am getting better than 20 mpg on the highway in my Sahara with 4:10's. The city mileage sucks but the highway is not to bad. I have about 2500 miles on it now.

The article gives me the impression that the author prefers rice.
Barely did he mention the KJ, which has been the best seller in its class for a long time and gets fairly decent gas mileage. Liberties are on the road thicker than flies on $h!t.
I think the ratio of JKs I've seen around my neighborhood is about 5 - 2 in favor of Unlimiteds.

I'll betcha the better gearing in the 62TE would help MPG around town and maybe even the highway. With the underpowered engine having to pull the hefty weight of the JK, a 4-speed just doesn't work. It works fine for the XJ, which weighs only around 3300-3500 lbs. That is crazy that the new JK weighs 4300 lbs... I guess it IS bigger and safer than the TJ and all that comes at the cost of added weight.
