Gear ratio with 35's on JKU

What is the general consensus on the best gears in conjunction with 35's on the 2013 Unlimited? I just ordered a Rock Krawler 2.5" lift and some 35 x12.50's on Method Racing 17" wheels. I was thinking either 4.88 or 4.56's. I have 4.56 on my TJ with 35's, but that is with a 4.0 and an RH32 3 speed auto. Anyone with experience on the best all around set up?

Auto or manual? See FAQ for starters and then let us know which you choose. Suggested ratio is different for auto vs manual.

Your profile says Ohio. A lot of people are very happy with 4.10s in flat terrain on 2012+ with 35s. Since you're spending the money to regear, I would probably go for 4.56 gearing. Should be plenty low enough. Since you have a lot of higher speed limits up there I wouldn't want go too low and make the freeway miserable.

I have 4.10s 35s with a 6spd its fine, but if I were to pay money to upgrade from any less I would go to 4.56. Can't say much for the Auto.

My JKU is an auto and a 3.6 Pentastar. I had looked at the FAQ gear chart previously, but the chart was for the 3.8 litre engine and the old tranny combo. Even if I was to go by that particular chart, my stock 32's are under geared with my stock 3.21 gears to begin with. I really don't trust the chart, which is why I was asking for real world experience. Although I live in NE Ohio, I travel a lot, often times in mountains. My TJ is for more heavy duty wheeling, but this new Unlimited is going to be my daily driver/camping/light trail rig. My plan is to regear and add Detroit Trutracs front and rear. When the Unlimited gets older, I plan on going to larger (37-40's) tires and axles and give the TJ to my kid.

4.56 would be perfect but for flatlanders, the stock Rubi 4.10 will work quite well. Here in Colorado, I curse the 4.10 only when going up the mountain passes and highways.

Thanks for the link. I just looked at the newer chart for my year Jeep, so I am back to my original thought of 4.88 or 4.56? I will just have to decide how high of RPM's I want to run on the freeway.

If not towing, go 4.56. I would not want to run around 3,000 RPM on the highway at 70 for any length of time.

This is good info. My Jeep buddies and I are planning a Colorado/Moab trip for early next year. 4.88 may be the best option for all around use. I still can't decide if I want to take the JKU or the TJ

4.56's for the highway, flat land, and not towing.

4.88's for 2 lane, mountains, and towing.

I have 35's and 4.10s here in Florida and it's fine, but if it were hilly I can see the 4.56s or 4.88s being a better choice.

Good choice I put in 4:88's last week and they are perfect for all the hills around here in New England!
