lol - fyi this problem isn't just on our JKs. My wifes WKII had the same issue(well it would spit out, but also cut the pump off within a few seconds constantly while filling), and since they didn't have info on it they replaced the tank (vehicle was only 2 weeks old). That didn't do it - after the second time the dealer replaced the filler hose and that did the trick.
Shoot even my 07 powerwagon had the tank replaced cause of the roll over valve was messed up and spit gas out every time when filling it.
Called Chrysler and they said they still won't cover it :/ Should I just order the filler tube or do I need to add a whole new / replacement tank too like the stealership said? What is the part number for the replacement filler tube that won't cause me headaches again?
My 2007 JKUR with 88K miles has this problem, and I got tired of dealing with it. My build date was 2/21/2007, 9 days before the TSB said it was covered. I talked to the dealer, they said call Chrysler Care. Chrysler said sorry. I called back to the dealer, pleaded my case, said it was an EPA and fire hazard and would they please talk to the area rep. They did, and it will be covered, $0 out of pocket. I'm thrilled.
Be persistent, and have the service manager talk to their rep. You may be surprised.
It just happened to my wife and now she says it happens every time she can no longer just let it fill and shut itself off. It used to not be a problem, I thought we had somehow got lucky............................
Off to the stealership and see how they are going to treat the problem.
I'm at the dealership now getting my free oil, when I asked about them replacing mine they basically told me to pound sand due to the fact that it is a "service bulletin" and not a recall. Difference between them being a recall they'll fix, service bulletin is just a notice that the owner can fix, unless warranty covers it. I bought my 07 over a year ago with no warranty, but should they honor this "extended warranty" if I have nothing? You would think gas spilling at each fill up would rate a safety recall or something. Any help and/or documents appreciated.
I don't know if this fix will work on a JK but it does work on the TJ. I had an 06 TJ and mine spit gas but then I traded it in on my 2012 JKU. I've had it spit once on my JKU but that was with the pump on full blast. Since then when I think I'm getting close to full, I just slow down the flow to about half speed and I haven't had a spit since.
