I've been locking it in the center console but like the idea of the roll bar padding.

I leave mine clipped to the driver's visor and have never had a problem. If you're that worried, just carry it in your pocket.

I mounted mine with some double-stick tape on the A-Pillar between the windshield and tweeter. Kind of inconspicuous and easy to reach.

I tried to clip it to the visor first, but the visor kept spitting it up and throwing it at my head.

I mounted mine with 3m adhesive tape to the top side of the drivers visor. it's black/gray and without the clip, you can barely see it top on or off. with the windows up, and alarm on, i doubt anyone will get it. if they do, then i'll just buy another and reprogram the door and then mount it elsewhere.
