The 2008 Jeep Wrangler is not so much an SUV as it is an experience. It's slow and loud, handles poorly, has crummy interior materials and features doors that provide virtually no crash protection. But when it comes to off-road performance, the Wrangler is simply the best choice available.

Imped gave the most simplistic response I've ever seen. Good job! Any type of auto locking device, lunch box or not, will extend the single drivetrain out to the wheels. All wheels trying to turn in unison, something has to give.

I disagree that "any type of auto locking device will extend the single drive train out to the wheels" - an auto locker only is supposed to lock up when one wheel spins faster than the other and forces the clutch pack or other inertia activated device to partially lock the differential - ie limited slip or such or fully like a detroit auto locker, then I would agree it does, - normally they are not supposed to be locked.

It's all good. Auto lockers are that quirky though. They load and unload at the most inconvenient times. I have an 86 Bronco with a Detroit Dana 60 in the rear, and a Dana 44HD with a Detroit EZ (lunch box) in the front. And, from experience, they will engage at the slighest wheel speed differential, and then bind up and stay that way until the wheel speed in matched, or they let go with a pretty good bang. A turn is just the type of wheelspeed offset that would cause it to lock. Since it is spring loaded, it shound bind and then release. Not always the case though. I've seen Detroits bind up and then let go and destroy a front axleshaft.
