Folding Seats

Hi Everyone! First off, new member (first post) and I'm excited at the prospect of joining your community.
I've been wheeling for years now, and I think the time has come for me to upgrade from a two seat toyota to a Jeep. I really like the changes they've made for the 07 year, but I'm having trouble getting over the fact that it's really hard to get in/out of the back seat. My main issue is that I have a large dog and I'm not sure how I'll be able to get him in the back. My buddy has an 04 Wrangler, and his seats fold forward, making it a lot easier to get back there. Does anyone know of any aftermarket products that would allow the seats to fold forward allowing easier access to the back seat? This is really the only issue I have about the new Jeeps. I found a 2dr Rubi nearby that the stealership is asking 26k for that I'd like to look into. I really don't like the look of the 4 dr ones (no offense anyone, I appreciate their versatility and am not in any way degrading them), plus I can't quite justify the extra money involved. Any help in this matter is appreciated. Thanks for your time!

Interestingly enough this question came up at last nights Q&A with the JeepEngineers. The fact of the matter is that they just didn't put alot of thought into the design, but I have a feeling that this will be something that is improved over the next year or maybe even a mopar upgrade type of deal. Because your right its just wrong how hard it is to get people in and out of the back.

I just bought 07 jk Sahara and I have no problem getting my dog in the back. The back seat flips forward leaving the back cargo area open for, say, a dog. I have a 90lb Boxer that loves it back there....plenty of room. Granted, there is no room for anyone else back there.

Yes, this is really my only point of contention with my JK 2dr. i'm embarrassed when someone has to sit back there! Almost to the point that i'll end up just removing the seat as it's unusable except for the very small dog or child. I saw that this was brought up at the Q&A. Their answer was that they would bring it to the designers attention. I hope they do and I hope they offer us some form of retrofit/upgrade!! I just bought my JK, can't just buy the next years model when it's fixed.

How does your dog get in there? Do you lift him? I have a 90 lb chocolate lab and he's not much of a jumper. I'm not really worried about anyone else fitting back there, since it's usually just me and the hound anyway

I'm sure whatever they come up with will be able to work with the JK. I would go ahead right now and try to work on some sort of way of incorporating the YJ passenger seat mounts (cuz I love how that one works). The only problem is all the junk that they have installed for the passengerside air bag. So I guess until they come up with some sort of upgrade Ill just have to wait.

You know, If it wasn't such an "appple to oranges" kind of thing, i'd have thought to see if a TJ seat bracket would work. but it's pretty easy to see that they are completely different animals in the way that they work. I just can't believe out of all the things they did right, they eliminated something that has been working for over 15 yrs!!

Well, my dog jumps up there (boxers are big jumpers). However, my roomate has a Rott and he gets the dog to put his front two paws on the fender and then lifts him the rest of the way.

There are also foldable ramps that you can by from stores like petsmart that the dog can just walk up. I'll probably have to get one of those when my dog gets older.
