Drain plugs in the floor?

Hey guys. I generally stick to the TJ forum, but I thought you might know the answer to this.

I was looking through a wheeling gallery and saw pics of a guy who swamped his JK Rubicon Unlimited. The footwells filled with water, of course, but when he got out of the water it didn't drain out! They emptied the footwells with little buckets. Do JK's have the drain holes in the floor and this guy just didn't know to remove the plugs from them? I'm not Trolling, just interested in the JK and curious. Thanks!

yes there are drain holes. Just have to lift the carpet and remove the plugs.

Hell- if he would've just read his owners manual he would've known that <duh>

HAHAHA- Looks like he also removed his driver's side freedom panel and climbed out LOL

Exactly! He definitely gets a point for creativity, haha. That's why I had my drain plugs and carpet out when I did this:

Being high centered (except one wheel) sucks.

lol, nice. To someone who didn't know any better it looks like you were trying to drive through a small lake.

so this leads to the question....

Who takes out the drain plugs and keeps them out at all times?

I haven't yet, but then again, I don't do any water fording... I've got a 6 speed and I'm too afraid of flooding the clutch with high water...

I think the time most likely that I'd remove the drain plugs would be if my Jeep got poured in with the top down, or if I needed to hose it out for some reason...

well it isnt the easiest to get the front carpet out to get to the drain plugs. I went doorless up to Tellico one time and it rained halfway up there. When we arrived I had a few inches of water in the floor... When I got back home I had to cut sections to get it out so now I have no carpet in the front, just some Husky floor matts.

Really? I haven't had to pull my plugs yet. But wanted to make sure I knew where they were in case it ever happened. I was able to pull up the carpeting and easily locate the plugs.

When I look under the seats, I see a plastic cap of some sorts... are those the plugs?

did you pull the carpet up our out? To get out I think I had to cut it around one of the seat brackets.

I drive a TJ, but the question is a general one I suppose. I drive with all my drain plugs out 24/7 now that I have the interior rhino-lined. It has been extremely nice being able to track all kind of snow and stuff in the Jeep and it just melts and drains right out. Although i will say with the open hole and no carpeting, I sometimes have to move my leg so I dont have jets of freezing air shooting up my pant leg haha.

I think someone at the factory removed the drainplug from my hardtop because all the water on my roof drains onto my dash.

Haha. It ended up looking like one, didn't it? It was just a puddle about 15' around until it started pouring about 10 minutes after I got stuck. Then it seemed the whole field was draining into the puddle and the water rose about 6 inches before I could get yanked out. Good times.
