Door Hinge Rust?

I had the dealer look at my door hinges and they said the rep would dedtermin if they would take care of them or not... How much luck have you guys had in haveing your hinges taken care of from bubbling from the inside?

Had 3 of my hinges repainted 2 months ago. Now one is already bubbling. Next step is to buy a set and have them powder coated.

Dronac 09-07-2010 06:52 AM

I wonder if there is a common cause for this? I haven't had any bubbling on mine...

makstuss 09-07-2010 12:31 PM

I had them all replaced, Dealer just needs to keep the jeep a few days.

dirtyjpwrangler 09-07-2010 12:33 PM

Mine are definitely bubbling also. I'm out of warranty though.

makstuss 09-07-2010 12:36 PM

Hmm, did you even try asking dealer? Such bullss****, everyone seems to have the same issue. I've seen some other posts that people have taken it upon themself to take them off, sand down..etc..do a search for it. A lot of work and patience...

The hinges on my 2008 are bubbling. I noticed it about 3 months ago on the front passenger side now all 8 are showing signs of bubbling. . I'm wondering what my dealer will do if anything. I've got close to 70,000 miles so being covered under warranty won't work for me unless the corrosion warranty would cover something like that.

TheShift 09-07-2010 07:49 PM

I have the 10... if this happens... i will personally remove the hardware and powder coat them black...

Just pull them off and bed line them ................
It's due to the stones/rocks & bad factory prep/paint on them and it won't get better ...........
IT IS A JEEP THING ....................

I have the '07 and had to take it back twice to have passenger side hinges done. No argument from the dealer. Just wish they would have taken just the doors and not the whole Jeep for several days both times.

DeepSky 09-08-2010 09:47 AM

Mine started bubbling like crazy at about 20k miles. Just pull them off yourself, sand em down, bedline them and be done with it for good:

I didn't take any pictures prior to "fixing" the issue myself but it gets pretty bad; to the point where you can obviously see there is something wrong from at least 10 feet away.

storch 09-08-2010 01:23 PM

bubbles also

08 silver, it looks like blistered aluminum that was painted over.
shows real bad, it must be bad material under the paint?
I will check if the corosion warranty covers it, It dam well should.

Same problem here with our 08 Jeep Green. We just rolled over 41K miles on it and the dealership said we are SOL because it is out of the warranty. I just got off the phone with chrysler and they are going to be calling me about it. Im pissed!!!
