I've tried searching the FAQ and too much conflicting info. Can anyone shed some clarity if I can run the 33's without rubbing or will I need some lift? If yes, how much lift? Don't rubis sit around 1" higher than sports?

The little bit of extra height on a Rubicon doesn't change the max tire height because all stock JKs have the same bumps tops. On a stock JK you can fit 33s with minimal rubbing. If you go with a 285 width 33 (such as a 285/70/17) you'll need wheel spacers or wheels with 4.5" back spacing.

I had BFG KM2s 285/70/17 on 17X8 wheels with 4.5" back spacing on my JKUR when it was stock. At full stuff the rub was so minimal it didn't hurt anything.

If post a pic but the forum won't let me. Not sure why.

Im running 305/65/17 with 4.75 backspacing and i have minimal rubbing. I havent done any hard off roading yet however. I would imagine that with the sway bar diconnected there would be much more rubbing.

I would say go for it.

it will rub if they are 12.5 wide. In hard flex at lock off road it may knock a plastic fender lose.

10.5 wide will have less issues but still will rub.

I have seen 33x12.5 on a 2" rub in a hard flex, but just very lightly

The lowest cost way to have larger tires on a Jk is to trim the plastic flairs. remove and 35"s fit easy even 37". with the right off set.

Just throw a set of aluminum 1" coil spacers all around and call it good and put some 1.25 spacers on and some 285s or 305s.

Are you asking this about for a JK or a TJ? This is the JK section and in your orginal post you list your jeep as a TJ.
