What's lame is the how the "easter eggs" practically double the price. It makes no difference to me being covered under insurance, but that cost increase in general is just BS.

The only reason why the discussion had come up is because you can actually choose the older non-logo'd windshield for replacement, if you want. And, for the same reasons as I mentioned in my previous post, they replace more of these newer windshields than they do the old ones.

I don't know how part numbers work when they're redesigned and the dude totally could've been full of ****, but again, given the fact I've gone through three '12 windshields already, but never had to replace my '07 that took an absolute beating, it makes sense.
I just got another chip....and Safelite guy was like WTF.....they felt so bad for me they didnt even charge me this time...saved me $100 and they just fixed the chip.
BTW, I was told almost verbatim the same thing.....get the window without the stickers.
Oh, and again...in almost 30 yrs of driving I've never broken a windshield before Feb.

When I got my new windsheild last Thursday, another Jeep guy getting something done with his windsheild but I couldn't hear fully what it was. Maybe we Jeep owners should get together and address this issue in mass. I'm in.

yes, several of the 9 windshields that I have had replaced were due to stress cracks happening on a cold morning, usually while being defrosted but some just sitting. Some just cracked with no outside influence. I firmly believe that some of these are due to a defect in the windshield frame. After 7 cracked windshields in a year and a halfs time, and pages of STAR case calls, Chrysler replaced the frame and that held up for another year and a half before another windshield cracked. So far, its been about 4 months and still holding up.

This is my third Wrangler. The first one to get a cracked windshield. The first one a work van had a ladder rack on the roof (rusted), and a nut came off and cracked the windshield. I let them know about the potentially unsafe vehicles and they told me to eff off.. uhm ok. They replaced the windshield with OEM. $250.

A nice big stone cracked it. No biggie, get it repaired. Safelite repaired it, terrible job. Could easily see it. A week later, another rock chipped my windshield. No biggie, but this time I had my friend fix it (he's really good!). No biggie, invisible.

Month later, the safelite repair started to spread. Called Nationwide and told them. They replaced my windshield again. Has been good for a long time now *fingers crossed*. No cracks as of yet. So, three windshields on my third jeep. Conspiracy??!

The 2008 Jeep Wrangler is not so much an SUV as it is an experience. It's slow and loud, handles poorly, has crummy interior materials and features doors that provide virtually no crash protection. But when it comes to off-road performance, the Wrangler is simply the best choice available.

Man am I glad I found this thread. lol! I came on searching for something else and saw this. Whoo!!!

Yes I had this happen to me 2 months ago. I was just sitting there waiting for the Jeep to warm up and Plink!!!! I was like WTF was that? It was dark out & I didnt have my lights on so I thought I just heard a noise but in my thoughts I was questioning if the windshield cracked or not. I couldnt believe it when I hit the lights as saw the 90* crack. It was at least 9 inches long. I had the defrost on and thought about the hot and cold but then thought to myself I have done it other times with the defrost on 1 and it never did it before. When I came up I looked over the window and found a chip. It cracked right at the chip. Now I have it half way across the windshield as it was very cold out and I guess the heat inside the line just grew by another foot.

I didnt call the insurance company yet(traveler's). I have full coverage on it but wondered if my premium will go up any for filing the claim.
I searched google and did hear about others saying the same thing about it being thinner than previous jeeps. I had an 88 and never had the windshield crack on me. It was nicked up pretty bad too. Like a dart board but never any cracks.

Ive dealt with Safe Lite before. How much for the aftermarket windshield? I was thinking on just buying a new one instead of filing another claim. I have my house and auto together to get a better rate but I have 2 actual claims from water damage (torrential downpours) and one call in about filing a claim that they consider a claim. When I talked to the agent the last time he mentioned I had 3 claims and was surprise it was considered a claim just for asking questions. I cringed for calling about this and asking!!!! These insurance companies are out of control.

Glass claims should not affect your rates. I have more glass claims than I care to admit on my Jeep and on my Dodge Ram and my rates actually went down a bit this year.

Homeowners works differently. Say I call and ask if a broken water pipe leaking under my slab is covered. They say no. I say thanks and fix the pipe without FILING a claim. Two years later I call and ask if a roof collapse is covered, it is BUT comes back to water damage under the slab. I knew about the leak and did not properly address collateral damage then - do they still pay?
The same KINDA applies to vehicles - but at the body shop they can see past damages. Costs of glass replacements is pooled differently in rate calcs than cost of collisions and comprehensives.
