Cowl rust already? 2008 with 27000 miles

I was washing my Jeep today and noticed about a dozen orange spots on the hood. They are ball point pin head small, and has a light ring around it (The clear coat coming off?). The paint is dark blue metallic.

Also, I have about a 2/3 cm round rust spot on my cowl. There is no paint cracking or flaking. It's a perfectly round hole in the paint.

Anyone experience this? I'm planning on running by the dealer ASAP this week.

Looks like rock chips to me. You do a lot of interstate driving?

About 1000 miles since I'v bought it, so I don't think so.

KEEP BACK!!! Stay away from gravel buckets-18-wheelers with dump trailers hauling rock of all sizes. Even tarped the rock can escape and do a lot of damage. I agree with Kenny, looks like this may be the case.

I've got 'em all over the Jeep from gravel......

It's also likely that they could have been marked, or poorly touched up at the dealer from which you bought it (seeing as it's used I assume there's more than 1k miles on it) and after the first time it got wet, it wore away. As a result, the metal started to oxidize and become visible. But yea, definitely rock chips.

go to the dealership and get a thing of touch up paint. cover that up with the touch up. you will notice the new paint, but it should keep it from progressing.

Well I guess I'll see what the dealer says. If they won't cover it, I guess I'll be learning how to use touch up paint. Will I need to sand the spot first to remove the rust?

Hmm... I wonder how a bedlined cowl would look...

Looks like it used to be Mango Tango. Yes, I know not in í08. Anyhow, I agree with the rest, rock chips. Although I have something similar I donít have any rust. Get some touch-up paint.

I used some rust converter and applied it w/ a q-tip, worked pretty good.

Then I used touch up. Wasn't this Jeep, but it worked well.
