Collapsed oil filter.

Buddy's 2013 is having major engine issues. Upon inspection it appears the oil filter has collapsed and caused some engine damage. Any ideas as to what would cause the filter to collapse.

there was a change of design somewhere in the 13's. You have to be real sure you get the right one. Mine is the first gen one so i have to check the parts guy to be very sure i dont get a new designed one. makes it almost a orphan... the only thing i can think off that might have caused this.

I have a 2013 as well. 90,000 miles on it. I only use Purolator filters. L36135 is what he wants.

Do you know what the difference is between the filters? How would one tell if they have the wrong filter?

So likely the short filter in the long housing allowed the oil pressure to blow the filter shut... sounds like $$$ on the repair.

Chances are---that engine won't have to worry about the proper oil filter ANY MORE-

When you run an engine at starved/no flow oil--bearings aren't "fixable", sounds like a total engine replacement--hopefully warranty, but I doubtit-

Good luck

Issue started with cam phaser position code and CEL. Dealer couldn't find a problem, as code only appeared at certain times. Code was not stored til the end. Engine is toast.
Thanks guys for the replies.

. Thanks. NM got it just hadnt had the time to watch the whole vid thanks..
