Can I add a ipod cable to mygig?
I just bought a 08 JK with mygig and was wondering if there is any kit that will allow direct access to my ipod. I am a little po'd at apple for keeping me from transfering mp3s to the mygig. So it looks like i get to reload to another program so I can hook up the hard drive. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
John Tuggle

I think I know what your trouble is. Change your settings on importing music to MP3, this will convert any uploaded files into MP3 format. The music it is not allowing you to transfer is because it is ...MP4 or some crap like that, anyhow then burn your library, or the songs you want converted, to disk then reload or "import" the disk to Itunes. Now you have MP3's and can upload them to mygig, or even a non-ipod brand MP3 player. I already ran into this issue myself and that is how I figured out how to get around it. It also helped alot cause my daughter wanted to upload some of my tracks on her MP3 player and it would not allow it. It is some BS crap they put on all Itunes purchased music, and even the ones you load from CD's to help keep sharing of these files down. And yes if you go to mopar.com and look at accessories for your jeep under audio, you will find the ipod direct connect thingy, not so bad to install from what I hear.

Okay so that is what I found on mopar.com seems cheap enough, and sounds as though it will do what you want?

The information given is innacurate and you will NOT get your iPod to work through your MyGig.
Unfortunately, if you've got a MyGig RER (the one with GPS) it must be one from an '09 or 10 to have the $87 cable work and allow control of the iPod through the screen on the RER.
This topic has been discussed in the MyGig thread (which is a sticky) ad nauseum.
As mentioned by ChevyChad, your iPod is most likely converting music into MP4s and you must change the settings, so that it will store any music in MP3. Once that is done, you can set it to disc mode and all you'd have to do is plug it into the USB port on the front of the mygig and any MP3 track from the iPod will transfer to the MyGig.

Unfortunately I don't think it'll work like that. iPods store songs differently than a normal computer would. They're still MP3, which means it might work, but they are all shuffled up and stuff. It's not compatible with a lot of things that you can normally plug a USB media player into.

Yes, SaharaBlackNo1 is correct...the 82212000 cable will NOT work for the MyGig. It's only for the non MyGig radios that have added the UConnect module.
If you have an 09 or 10 MyGig w/Nav, then you can use part number 82211853, which runs about $85 list price. The 07 and 08 radios do not have the internals for iPod control, and thus this cable will not work with them. When I went to add the MyGig to my 08, I specifcally sought out an 09 unit so that I could have this feature.

Sorry if the part # was incorrect, guess my mopar.com search skills aren't so good? But the Itunes info worked for me. I can't remember what it was they default convert to, but it was some B.S. that would only work with apple products. Once you get everything set to "true" MP3 format all is good and you can use the files anywhere MP3's work.

By default iTunes converts songs to MP4 I believe it is (whatever it is, it isn't MP3). You can manually change that so that it will convert any songs you upload to MP3, but you can't change the songs purchased on iTunes to MP3 without burning them to a CD first, as far as I know.
What you can do, is set your iPod to "enable disc use" I think it is and it absolutely will allow you to plug it into the USB port on the MyGig and upload all the songs that will fit that are MP3s. I did that on my old mygig when I couldn't get the iPod cable to work. Unfortunately if I recall correctly it treats your iPod like a big USB stick and uploads every song on there, you can't pick and choose, but you can go through on the mygig and erase any that you don't want.

ipod adapter for mygig RER
I went to the apple store and for $50 I bought an auxillary cable with charger and it works great on mygig. I just plugged the auxillary cable to the mygig and ipod and it works perfectly. But it does not work on the iphone though just the ipod. Or just purchase the auxillary cable for $20 and use your existing car charger for your ipod then just plug and play. No static no switching of radio stations and most off all no drilling. The cable is long enough to place it on the seat or on your dash.

Thanks for all the help. I did change my itunes settings to import as mp3s which is working, just not for the 11,000 songs I have on it. I wish I would have know about the issues with the 07,08 units. I would have looked for an 08 or just looked for one without nav and bought aftermarket. Thanks for all the help.

You can right click on the songs you want and convert them to MP3. Even a lot of the newly downloaded songs will let you.
