Camping trip w/the Jeep, pulling pop-up camper & boat..
Well I'm now at the last 20 minutes of vacation
So I went camping at Cherrystone (too bad it rained all week with 50mph wind but was 85f the day we left), drove over thousand miles. While there, I pulled my Pop up camper (loaded too), not sure what their weight is though. Had a pretty good trip pulling with my Jeep, topless, averaging around 18.8MPG (hand calculated).
Driving in Norfolk, Virginia and Virginia Beach with heavy traffic (not pulling anything) I got a pretty good 21.8MPG. That surprised me, considering I was doing 65MPH.
I didn't do anything offroad, because I was with the family and it was a relaxin' trip.
Overall, I was pretty impressed with the Jeep.. so if you're looking into buying a JK, I recommend it! There was a two other Jeeps at the campsite. One was lifted up and loaded and the other was a stock TJ.
I didn't have troubles going up bridges or steep hills, but I used 5th gear going through the underwater tunnel because sixth gear was sluggish and I didn't maintain the required speed in 6th. No biggie there.
So here's the pictures:

Jeep doorless (first time!) on the beach. I tell you it impressed my brother and his friend on the beach
Edit, I put links because the pictures are huge..

I got it at Gander Mountain for around $150-$200 can't remember. It's really nice. But I want one for the front that folds up. But my stuff fits this one really good so I guess I'll make it for the front but removable ! I put my tool box and stuff on it.
http://www.gandermountain.com/storelocator/index.asp Check the store locator and you can pick it up. It might of been cheaper then that can't remember; it's really high quality too.

Any pics with the trailer?
I'd like to see your setup with your trailer, and perhaps you can give a ballpark weight? If not, which model pop-up are you hauling? How did the JK handle while towing? Thanks for posting--it looks like fun!

Unfortunately, I did not take a picture of the camper on the Jeep. I say it was probably approx 1,500 to 2,000 lbs. It's a 1989 Coleman, 13ft. It pulled it wonderful, I can't complain one bit. I hit 5th gear going up a bridge to keep up and it did not struggle one bit. In fact, it pulled nicer then my Grand Cherokee did when I had that last year. I am amazingly impressed. Now, only if my JK could pull my 24FT Wellcraft I'd be in business! That would be a match made in heaven.. white Jeep with a white boat..

Where is the beach that you drove your jeep on? I'm thinking to go to Virginia beach or Chincoteague bay and want to know if I can drive my jeep there.

It's in Delaware, at 3Rs. You're in VA so I'd go to Chincoteague for that. My beaches would be too far. If you come to DE, let me know we'll go together

Thanks for that information. I really haven't come across too much experience towing with the 2DR JKs on these forums. I'm hoping to tow a small pop-up with my Rubicon some day--now I have something to look forward to.

Your Rubicon is rated 2000lbs and mine is rated 1000lbs I believe. I have the lowest gear ratio. That's why I posted my experience so others on the forum could learn

Thanks I might go to Rehoboth beach if there's any place for wheeling.

My spouse & I recently bought a new Coleman Baja tent-trailer. AWESOME!
The trailer we bought is 2200 dry and total wet-weight loaded is 2900. These are perfect for the 2008 Unlimited capacities. It towed great, felt great etc. I do have to hook up an electric brake module in the jeep soon though.
But, I'll post pictures of the ensemble when we return from another trip in two weeks!

All we got is the beach. But everyone gets stuck. It's funny when you go cruizin by or stop to help
You are required to go fishing and you have to buy a beach pass for the year.. and it's outrageous price. $130. Plus you need a fishing license now. For outstate it's probably $10-$20 ($8 for locals).

We're working on a new pop up... but maybe a regular camper but small. My camper also felt great and there was no sway at all!
