burning oil smell from heat vent

After 1st oil change noticed a buring oil smell from the air vents when the vehicle is at a traffic light. Had the car checked for oil residue on block. Nothing found. Been a week and still experiencing the same problem.

Anyone heard of this?

Chance is that some of the oil was spilled either on the block or some on the exhaust manifold when someone was adding oil. The reason that you are smelling it at stop lights is because your vent is open and is drawing fresh air in to the HVAC system.

Here is a question: If it using any oil? Is it dropping any oil on the ground or leaving any marks where it is parked?

The drain bolt on the pan is in the rear so I doubt that you could have gotten anything on it while draining it. Check your level and let us know.

Doesn't have oil on the ground. Do not see a drop in oil level yet - but only been couple days since oil change.

I would also bet that oil dripped onto your exhaust or something, and at this point you may not be able to see it all that well. I would pop the hood next time the engine is well warmed and check for any signs of smoke or anything. Also, has it been a week or a couple of days?

Been a week now.

Only happens when venting from outside - when set to recycle from inside no smell.

Nothing on the ground. Looked under the hood. Did not see anything. No smoke visible - but definitely a smell. Can not tell where from. Oil level ok so far.
