Budget Co2 system

Got mine in.

Tank = $85 (http://www.beveragefactory.com/draftbeer/tanks/co2.shtml)
Regulator = $38 (http://www.wheelersoffroad.com/co2systems.htm)
30ft hose = $38 (http://www.wheelersoffroad.com/co2systems.htm)

Those above are the bare minimum requirements (fyi- the hose comes equipped with an end for filling tires, so you wouldn't even have to worry about buying that). So for under $200 you can have the minimum requirements. It cost me $7 at a welding supply shop to have the tank filled (10lb tank)

In my case, I added to it

PowerTank HD tire inflator (Thanks to 1222 for pointing me to this item ) = $60

Heavy duty mounting bracket = $40 (http://www.outbackequipped.com/accessories.asp#bracket)

So even with these additions, I still am a lot less than a comparable Powertank system.

Now where I wanted to mount the bracket, it would not work due to the design of the floor. So I had RockRash 4x4 fix it up for me- he welded on a "foot" to the front edge of the bracket. Then he powder coated it because the welding (of course) messed up the paint.

Nice air set-up. I like it. I had considered something similar at onetime. A couple of question though. How do you like the air hose? Is it the small diameter hard plastic type or is it kind of soft and pretty flexible (which I want)? The reason I ask is because I’m looking for a little longer hose than I have now and the price you paid is a good one plus it looks good in the pics.
Oh yea, about the fire extinguisher mount, who makes it. Thanks.

the hose is pretty flexi- according to the website it is designed to handle Co2 & Nitrogen. Stretches real good, and goes back to the coiled shape easily.

Not sure who makes the mount. I just bought it from that website posted in the description above.

Maybe this is a silly question, but here it goes anyway. Why CO2? Why not just a portable air tank you can fill up at home with a compressor or at gas station for free or twenty five cents. Is there a connection on the bottle you have that you can just fill up with air from a compressor instead of CO2?

A tank that size full of air would fill up less then 1/4 of 1 tire.

A 10lb bottle of CO2 will fill up 12 of my 35" tires from 6.5 pds to 29 pds.

Yup- there's the answer

I have a 7 gallon air tank in my garage that I use on my motorcycles- works perfectly for that. But... The stations around here that have air, the air is $1 (not twenty-five cents unfortunately), and it requires $2 worth to fill the 7 gallon tank. And then (I discovered) a 7 gallon tank (which is a pretty big tank) is only good for a single 35" tire

Before getting the Co2, I have been using this portable compressor: http://www.jcwhitney.com/SUPERFLOW-HEAVY-DUTY-AIR-COMPRESSOR/GP_2012883_N_111+10201+600017719_10101.jcw But it is pretty slow- takes 4-5 minutes to air the 35's from 15psi to 30psi. Plus now my wife is also wheeling her JK, and we discovered that the compressor will over heat and shut off after airing up 6 tires- leaving one of us (me) to drive with 2 tires at 15psi to go find a gas station and pay $1 for air

that sux, in California air is free if you ask the cashier. I believe its the law here to help with people rolling around on flat tires and prevent a blow out.

Thats a cool setup, I may have to copy you.

I did the same thing but went with a 20 lb tank. Bought my tank from the same place. I pay $1 per pound at a fire extinguisher shop.
