Breaking in new gears.
I'm getting used to delays. I have heard Jeep means, "Just Empty Every Pocket", how about this one;
Just Expect to Exercise Patience I kill me. Anyway, I'm waiting for the right gears to come in, the shop ordered 4.88's as opposed to the 5.13's I wanted. At any rate I'll be getting the new gears put in the on one the days that will be following in quick succession to today, and I'm interested in protecting my investment by breaking it in right. Anyone have advice on how to properly break in new gears? If no one tells me otherwise, I'm gonna be flooring it all over the place and just getting power crazy. Cheers!

Just drive it... I wouldn't do anything special other than changing the gear oil a couple of times within the first 2000 miles (like 1 at 500 and another at 1500).
When all else fails, follow what the mfr recommends.

Don't tow, don't exceed around 55 mph, don't accelerate very fast.
Just take it very easy for about 500 miles. Then change the fluid.

The shop that you are ordering the gears from, will they also be installing them as well? I know the two popular shops there are 4 wheel parts & Maui off-road. Are one of them the shops you ordered the gears from. Let me know how the install goes and if you would highly recommend them....Thanks... |

Maui Off Road

Yeah, Jeff at Maui off road is the man. For the total package, the gear instal, lift, and the wheel/tire mount and all that goes with it he quoted me more than $500 less in labor alone than 4 wheel parts. Also, when I wanted to switch tires from Procomp X-Terrain to BFG MT KM2's, no problem, and even though they cost more, he didn't charge me any more because they were in stock. Also, not a gripe about sending the 4.88's back for 5.13's. Nice guy, fair pricing, and I've read a lot better consumer feedback about that shop. Google 4 wheel parts, and a lot of consumer complaints come up. Where in hawaii are you? Wanna go wheelin'?
