black spacers on jk t tops

mounted on the back of the t tops just in front of the fastener nut. on the JK model there is a part called spacer part number 9. it opens and closes. can anybody tell me what this is used for. dealers nor Jeep can tell me what its for. ??????????

They are for when you run just the front panels of the top with no rear hard top. They make up for the missing thickness of the top where the bolts go through. If you don't put the flaps in the right position, the bolts are too long and the panels rattle.

They also space the front top up properly so the doors close properly on the seals. When only the front sections are on and rear hardtop is off.

Along with proper spacing and decreasing rattles, they help keep your thumb screws from busting through the panels if you really try to crank them down while the top is off.
