The more I look at this, the more upset I get. I just want my money back now and get the oem top. 8 f'n hours+ on this top for it to look and work like crap still.

Wrote to bestop, hopefully they will just give me back my $.

Heard back from Bestop, they are willing to let me return it via Morris 4x4 whom I bought it from. Morris has not written back to agree as well, but I am sure they will.

So Ill unbolt and repack it up to ship back and get a refund.

Its a shame, the product was high quality and I liked the way it looked, just didnt work for me for some reason I or anyone else can pinpoint.

I ordered the factory top from the dealer and having it installed on Thursday, so opefully I can finally actually enjoy the convertible feature on the Jeep without worrying about getting the top back up or down.

Bestop was a stand up company and I would recommend them and the tops, I just seem to either have received materials/parts that just arent jiving, my Jeep has something weird or misaligned on it, or a combination of factors. However, best sign of a good company is:
1. They sent me more parts to try out to fix what my have been the problems
2. Willing to stand behind the products
3. Willing to refund if the product simply isnt working

I have no beef with them, and I am just an odd case I guess. I will definitely attest to the quality and recommend for others base don the above.

I do see a bit of a gap between your header and the top of the windshield. Mine fits completely flush and yours should too. I'd say you have an issue.

Wow, yours REALLY sticks up in the air, and it looks like it needs some adjustments. Not sure I can give you any advice, I tried everything there is over 3 attempts, 8+ hours, with friends, a professional convertible top guy, a heat gun and a switch out of some parts and even trying to customize some parts that just didnt seem to be right.

Im amazed because I know Bestop is a great company who has made great stuff for years, even the convertible top pro I went to knew Bestop and said they were the best after market there is, and he was in that business.

Maybe just something odd about the JK's? I got a private message from someone else who didnt want to post up here who is having problems with their JK and the Bestop. Perhaps the problem actually lies with Jeep?

Yeah, I"m going to try again this weekend to redo the header. If that doesn't work, I'll take more pics and send them to bestop's customer support.

Thanks,
Mike

They are great to deal with. They made every effort to make mine work and were responsive. I hope you get yours to work, best of luck this weekend!

This thread is confusing me (it ain't hard to do that).

So generically: if you are having trouble with your top, PLEASE take advantage of our experienced customer support team. Send email with a photo or two to CsBestop@bestop.com, and just ask them "is it me, or is it you?"

If it's us - if the product is defective - we will of course stand behind it. We make thousands of these things, for Chrysler Jeep, for the aftermarket, for vehicles all over the world. It's unlikely, but certainly possible yours is FUBARed. But we also see people installing things wrong.

Also, standing behind our product means supporting our retailers. We sell to Morris, for example, and they sell to you. Returns work the same way in reverse. This is true for every manufacturer that I know of. But we have a great relationship with Morris (and just about every other Jeep retailer), and support them.

Thanks for your support!

Man am I glad I found this thread. I was beginning to think I had been shipped a top for the wrong model year or something.

My top gaps at both corners. It's bad enough on the drivers side that a wind gust last Thursday left me looking at an inch of blue sky above the windshield.

THe problem seems to be that the header bar assembly is flat, where the windshield is curved. The latches don't have nearly enough juice to pull the header bar down tight to the windshield. Being flat also seems to leave the header bar just an eighth of an inch or so too long. On mine I have to force the two support bows down along the inside of the door frames every time I put the top up.

The only solutions I can come up with are 1. bend the header bar to match the windshield or 2. return the top. Bending the header bar is a silly thing to have to do to a brand new product that costs this kind of money, but...

Hi Geoff,
Can I request you when I email to Bestop? I originally contacted Bestop support and the reply was to contact the merchant that I purchased the top from. I contacted JC Whitney and explained my problem to them. They in turn contacted Bestop. In end result was bestop sent me the lower metal part of the header. My top is still not fixed. I can't replace the part because some of the screw heads stripped when installing, so if I take it apart I may not be able to get it back together. When I put the top up I can force the top in the channel, but once I clip in the sides the front over the driver pops up. The clamp fails to hold the header in the channel. It's almost like when I lock in the sides the header if pushed forward and out the channel.

Thanks,
Mike
