Banks Monster

Just finished installing my banks monster catback on my rubicon. So far i love it. Im not gunna lie though, i was hoping for a deeper sort of "growl" but i knew the V6 is only capable of so much oooomph.

Next ive got my eye on the XDI intake...

side note... anyone elses rubi come missing the rubber shock bushings on the top of the front shocks? The dealer is trying to to tell me the one im missing disintegrated... which to me doesnt seem to really be any better than it not having one in the first place.

I had mine installed last month, and like it. It has a nice tone to it, and wont rust like the factory muffler.

Someone else reported a missing shock bushings on the rear of an X. I have not had issues, but hearing about this kind of thing aggravates me because it shows a complete lack of quality control and not caring enough to put all the parts on the vehicle when it is being built. I'm almost waiting for someone to have a missing piston in their engine or something. Even though I have not had issues, hearing about this stuff annoys me enough that I think about selling my Jeep, buying some beater truck and then putting the balance of the money into my first love, motorcycling. I sold my last bike in 2000 and I have been bummed ever since.

There are not many threads on here without your name on them. (I'm not hating, your input is always good.) If you sell your Jeep you'll just be stuck at the computer with nothing to do

Heres the exhaust at 4wd
http://www.4wd.com/productdetails.aspx?jeep-sid=25&plID=801&partID=15824

I agree that the fact parts are seemingly left out without notice is unnerving. But it wasnt a part that was over all vital. (like a piston... wtf?) And it is under warranty so im not too worried.

It took me and a friend about 30 mins to take the old system off and put the new one on. Bolt off and then bolt back on. That simple. Hardest part is getting the rubber hangers off.

Eventually i think id take it to a shop to get the whole thing welded up. But it doesnt need it.

Honestly though if your looking for an exhaust that's just gunna give you a better sound just go and get a muffler. Ive realized that there's no point in the catback. Unless rusty exhaust pipes really bother you that much. Dont get me wrong, its a great system but theres more cost effective alternatives.

so I have to ask, judging by your statement. there was not a huge difference in power? sounds like you also had done some research, before your purchase. What toher brands sis you consider? I had seen one installed some time ago, and was wondering if you knew what it was and if was any good. I believe it was a borla, i muffler, with 2 outlets looking like duals? any good?

Well ill just say i didn't get in it and go "whoa". I'm sure there are subtle changes if you went and dyno'd it. (Because of flow through banks muffler as opposed to the maze of chambers im sure the stock muffler has.) But uhhh, ya no HUGE change i could feel. Im thinking an intake will help some more though.

I looked at a few other brands. For some reason i had it set in my mind that i would absolutly not get a magnaflow... maybe because i think pepboys when i hear magnaflow or the fact my buddies v6 4runner sounds so ricer with it. I wouldve loved to have gotten a Borla but at over $800.... no thanks. Plus that rear split just isnt me... more metal to mangle on the rocks.

Main reason i got a banks is because i thought the muffler mounted under the rear seats... turns out it didnt but with some extra pipe its an easy mod. I was trying to leave room for this in the future. http://www.offroadevolution.com/store/proddetail.php?prod=EVO-LEVER

I have the Banks Monster exhaust and so does one of my friends. Both pipes and mufflers are beginning to rust (tail pipe is completely discolored). Mine has been installed for less that 1yr. Granted, I live in Houston where rust flourishes. Keep in mind that "stainless" doesn't exactly mean what it says when you subject it to repeated heat cycles.

I too remember someone else mentioning they did not have a bushing on a shock. I do not understand how someone can have a bushing missing on their shock cause that would rattler and make all kinds of noise.
He mentions it is the front top bushing. I am not sure that with a missing bushing on top the shock would even tighten down enough to not move. now about missing pistons in motors, I have a polaris story about that... they had crappy Quality control for along time..

I was missing my front passenger bushing too. Complete BS this has happened to so many. Makes me wonder what else was not put on my vehicle.

I didnt know it was missing till about 300-500mi, right after I wheeled it hard the first time. I thought I broke something.....nope.

ive read about a bunch of people missing the bushings, im not sure about mine as i lifted it shortyl after i got it. i have a custom bent exhaust using a thrush muffler it and sound great and although i didnt notice a power difference untill i put a intake on it i did get better mpg with it.
