Does this occur more with lifted than stock JK' or is the ball joint monster indifferent?

From what I've seen and heard its indifferent, although the larger the tire/lift the quicker they seem to go.

39,000 miles and mine are in great shape. But I have been greasing them regularly with one of those needle adapters on the grease gun.

I do not see how it is possible to get grease where it needs to go (between the load bearing surfaces) on the stock ball joints using a grease gun.

Did you notice anything bad with the ball joint driving wise, or did you notice it was gone after you were under the jeep?

Seems like you would have some sort of clue driving the ball joint was going?

Hellbound13 told you how - with the needle.

I've go 47,000 miles, including 5,000 with a lift and 35s with no issues on the ball joints. Every complex mechanical system can be characterized by a bell curve of experience with failures. Don't paint the whole population of vehicles as flawed becuase yours is the one that failed. Sucks for you but doesn't mean the lot of them suck.

Im not. Mine only failed once. But the pages upon pages on the other forum of multiple ball joints failing and even AEV engineers and my local dealer saying these are a very weak point on the JK are enough to convince me. Consider yourself lucky yours has lasted.

Its possible you don't see a lot of salt where you live and it does not eat at the joints.

One member here even had his crumple in his hands when he removed them. The inner part is made of PLASTIC.

You would not see so many posts asking for better ball joints this early in the game if the stock ones were so stout.

May be wishful thinking on my part but no problems so far, so I think I will continue with the program until something better comes along

what kind of damage can a bad ball joint cause? In other words, if I plan on upgrading to adjustable control arms, trac bar, and tie rod,...should I replace the ball joints too? I have no symtoms of bad ball joints btw.

No need to replace ball joints until they wear out.

Radial (side-to-side) movement in the upper ball joint should not exceed 0.060" (1.5mm).

Axial (up and down) movement in the lower ball joint should not exceed 0.050" (1.25mm).
