Backup Camera install with MyGig???

Looking to add a backup camera to my 2008 Sahara with MyGig/Nav radio. What exactly is needed? I think I've read I can add the Mopar camera used in the Grand Cherokee but then I'd need to have the radio set by the dealer using starscan.

What if I go after market camera? Can I use the Lockpick AV9003MYGIG CABLE for $69 and not have to spend the $289 on the Lockpick V.2? And not have to have the dealer use starscan? What is everyone else doing?

I ordered the lockpick, camera, and video cable setup from solidsignal.com for 392.00 shipped. You will save almost 100.00 instead of going to coastaltech. Its been shipped but i wasnt here yesterday when fedex came by, missed it by 10 minutes, which really pissed me off, but anyway, it will now be here tuesday. I went to the local dealership and bought the mic for the uconnect for 40.00.

What i ordered is below:
Coastal E T ech MYGIG LOCKPICK EL1CAMDLR Waterproof Camera (EL1CAMDLR) (ELT-E51) | Qty: 1
Coastal E Tech MYGIG LOCKPICK AV9003 Multimedia Harness (AV9003) | Qty: 1
Coastal E Tech MYGIG LOCKPICK v.2 Chrysler Dodge and Jeep Navigation Unlocking Device (MYGIGLOCKPICKv.2) | Qty: 1

Go to Pepboys and buy a back up camera kit for under $100. They are wireless comes with a little 3.5" screen and it attaches to your license plate

So whats with this lockpick? What exactly is it unlocking? I read you can watch DVDs while driving. And now this camera setup. Anything else it does?

I'm getting the Lockpick today and am soooo happy I saw this thread yesterday. Thanks Av8terZ06, you saved me $ and I appreciate that. Now if you can get me the AEV front bumper for $700 I will be really inpressed!

I did this exactly minus the camera. I thought I had a good camera, but it turned out to be CMOS. I want a CCD perhaps with IR LEDS. Still shopping for it. I might just end up buying the camera from solidsignal.com after all.

Got my Lockpick in the mail today. I can't wait to get home to install it! One question; to control my ipod using the MyGig touchscreen, do I still need to get the ipod interface cable if I have the Lockpick AV9003 cable?

There is another way to do it without buying lockpick. Just need to order back up cam from Commander and have the dealer do the starscan flash. Here is a link to the other forum I found the info on http://www.jk-forum.com/showthread.php?t=77821

here is mine

I need it after installing my tire cage. not all dealers will activate this so you'll need to ask around. I just happen to know the service manager at the jeep dealer very well so i get most thing done long as it is an option.

Ok, rather than start a new thread I thought I'd bring this one back from the dead.

How did you guys route the cables for your backup cameras? I'm going to be installing mine tomorrow and I'd like a leg up on the best way to do it.

Also, for those with the Lockpicks, I haven't yet really jumped in and given it a good hard look, is it literally just mount the camera in the back, run the wires, and plug into the harness? Any tips or tricks?

I installed my cam on the bottom of the bumper and in the middle where the little cutout is for a hitch. I routed the wires up through a little hole that already has a rubber grommet. Look under the jack, in the little well area and you will see a black rubber grommet. I cut a slit in the grommet, put the wires up through the slit and then used some black silicone to seal it back up. This is also where I put the little square thing that is attached to the camera,,,,that is if you got the same camera as I did. I then routed the wires along the weather stripping towards the right and followed it up to where the hardtop mounts and then along the side all the way up to the passenger footwell. If I remember right, I ran out of length for the power wires and spliced in a few more feet to lengthen it. Then I ran the wires up through the base where the glove box is and up to the lockpick harness, and yes, its just as simple as a plug and play and the rear cam will work when you go into reverse. You can remove the glove box very easily by squeezing in the sides and then let it open more and it will come off the lower hinge. This will give you easy access to run wires to the lockpick.

I have the lockpick also, and it made the install an easy task. I mounted camera on the side of rear wiper plastic housing. I got the back up camera from the same lockpick place.

Back up camera: The only bad thing about this location is during raining the wiper misses the camera so I can't see too good via the camera. I will have to place a 1 inch mount to move the camera towards left.

So you cannot take the top off in summer?

The camera has a quick disconnect about 3 feet from the camera, so I will not have a camera with a soft top. Who needs it with soft top down?

I mounted my camera inside for safety and stealth reasons.
