I looked at those tires for weeks and even though I decided for cost reasons to go with something different, I think they are a pretty decent tire overall. (Note, these tires aren't that expensive overall, but I'm getting a pretty killer deal on some Rubicon tires).
I've heard they suck in mud, but there are a few write-ups and reviews that suggest an otherwise decent tire. Not the most aggressive tread pattern out there, but many of us can't afford to get mud terrain tires that will wear out faster because we spend most of our time on the highway.

DONT DO IT!!!!! I had them for a while and if you do any offroading.... THEY SUCK!! couldnt wait to get rid of mine. Did some work a while back that required me to drive on dirt roads quite a bit and by the end of a few weeks I had chunks missing out of these tires. However if you are planning on doing most of your offroad time in the mall parking lot then these tires are perfect for you. I wouldnt have them on anything of mine again... Pure crap in my honest opinion.

I have them on my F350 and really like them. They are pretty quiet and look sharp. I will tell you that I have done most of my mudding on a mall parking lot as a previous poster suggested but feel they do fine. I would put them on my JK in a heartbeat when I buy new tires. The majority of my offroading my truck comes from lake ramps and edges where I put my boat in. They work for me. I have ran the same tire sets on my truck w/o problems.

I have them and for the money they are pretty decent. They dont suck arse in the mud as previously described. They arent the greatest tires either. However i go hunting quite frequently which requires me to go through some nasty stuff and they handle great in it. I am talking mud half way up the tires and really soft. Also dumped the entire front end in a sink whole on the beach right near the tide line (not on purpose btw) and i was able to back right out. If i had to give them a rating I would say a 4 out of 5 because they arent as aggressive (appearance) as I would like but who cares I do a lot of on road driving so they work well for me. I hope this helps. Good luck in choosing. Btw you could get more opinions if you stated some of the other tires you might be looking at if you are.

Well I plan on staying with the stock rims and nitto is the only company that makes a A/T that is 285/75r17. I think that would be a good size it is a 33.8.

well that sounds good then. but have you looked at getting 16" rims, you can get rims tires and put the sensors in the new rims for the price of 17" tires alone and then the next time you buy tires you will be saving and eventually they will pay for themselves. Just some food for thought. And yes 16" will clear your calipers so no worries there

I run them on my Dodge Ram 4x4 and I like them alot. They are a pretty good all around tire, balanced very easily. They clean out well in the snow, ok in the sand, great in the rain, decent in the mud (they are an A/T) and pretty quiet on the road. I ran BFG A/T's previously on the truck and they weren't all that great, they lasted awhile but didn't handle all that well.

I have a buddy that runs them and he hates them in the mud. He got stuck in his buddies front yard when it rained. He tore ruts all through it trying to get out. And it wasn't even very soft. They don't look horrible though and have a decent mileage range on them. I would say go BFG all the way but that is just one opinion and I'm sure someone will cut me down on that. But if you look around a lot of people run them and for a good reason. I won't say don't get them cause they are cheaper but I do not recommend them. Good luck on a new tire!

I had these on my JK for a while. I never really had them offroad, but they were really quiet on the road. If you are not doing any serious offroading, you can't go wrong with this tire. It is a good tire for the money.

I've went some pretty tough places with the Goodyear Wrangler SRA tires that come with the X model. Aired down they do surprisingly well. Looking at the tread pattern of the Nitto, they have to be at least a step up and will probably do just fine in most places.

You will need to get 285x70x17. They do not make 285x75x17. I just purchased a set and am pleased with their performance on the road. Most of my off-road driving is hunting club property - not the real hard core stuff. I will know more about their off-road performance in a couple of weeks.

You might consider a 295//17 or 305//17 size tire as well. Similar sizes. The only concern I would have with the Nitto tire in that size is the Load Range. You'll get differing opinions, but many say a Load Range E tire is too much for a JK. Some of the sizes close to that are Load Range D which should ride smoother.

As far as the Terra Grapplers go,they're a great A/T tire. They're excellent in rain, snow and dirt, they do suck in the mud. They're probably the best snow tire I've ever ran.
After having 4-5 sets of BFG A/Ts over the years,IMO the Nittos are better then the BFGs all the way around.
They'll do about 95% of what the stock Rubicon BFG M/Ts will do.
