Antenna and Car Wash

Quick question. Do you guys take your antenna off before you go into a car wash?

Could this be why there are so many posts about leaky tops????

The only time my antenna has been off was to paint it black......

(never seen a car wash)

Yep....

check around, lots of threads on this, may have no bearing on the leakage, but those high pressure sprays could make it leak.

Make sure to keep the gaskets lubed, I use silicon spray, just don't let 'em dry out.

In the winter, at most I'll use a wand to knock off the crap.

Did you ever get a resolution on you torn seat? Any ideas about the leaky tops that we hear about?

Dunno. I take mine through a hot water automatic brushless car wash and have NEVER had a leak, kinda. The rear window leaked (oozed) a bit (from purchase, used), just a bit. It was a bad seal on the window and was replaced, now, no leak. I am not sure about the rest of the tops out there, but it could just be bad seals or bad seal installation.

Also, because my wash is brushless, I normally don't remove my antenna. I will if I go through a normal one though!

No. They refused to fix it and now of course the warranty is up. Sometimes (most times) the dealer really stinks. Thanks for asking though.

You mean people actually listen to radio!?! All I listen to is satellite radio, internet radio (via iphone). I've not listened to AM/FM or CDs in years.

I do take mine off when going through the car wash.

I took mine through a regular wash once and tweaked the antenna a tiny bit...won't do that again, and it's not worth the money, I do a better job at the manual wash anyway.

You MUST take your radio antenna off

I had taken my '12 JK soft top through the automatic car wash several times without any issues; until yesterday. Since our radio antenna is mounted on the side and not the top the brush was able to grab the antenna mast. It broke the antenna base in half. The dealership got me a new base, base cover & mast for $50. And BTW the top has never leaked in the automatic car wash but I usually hand wash it anyway. Call me strange but I like to touch my Jeep
