You may have something there. Could be revenge. I've been searching for the "right" jeep for me for a bit now. New and used search trying to spend the $'s right. One of the new dealerships has a die hard jeepman there as a salesman that's been helping me on my search. He said that Jeep sued, or is in the process of, Hummer for ripping off the Jeep grill. Not sure of the validity of his statement because I haven't heard or read it anywhere else. Does kinda make sense though. My next door neighbor has an H1 and I can see where folks would think Hummer's grill is a rip off.
Other than not hearing or reading his statement elsewhere, one thing that makes me question his statement is he told me this a while ago. Now Hummer has had another model year or so and come out with a new model (H3) and still has the similar grill. So, he was either misinformed, Jeep lost the lawsuit or Jeep and Hummer came to a nice little monetary agreement to let Hummer continue.

Any opinions on the new power plant? I'm now making enough green that I can actually afford one of these but the DC V6 doesn't have nearly the tried and tested history of the I6. We can forget about easy, cheap mods for a while.
DC turned down an engineering proposal for easily removable fenders and engine compartment panels ( as I read from a college website) and now I know why.
After talking with one of the guys at the dealership I got this explanation that reminded me of Chef from South Park. This is definitely not the same reasoning I would expect from Mr. Bodo Uebber (CEO of DC)

Revulsion will be replaced by acceptance, which will placed by admiration which will be replaced by adoration. This process will be aided by customization. I can't wait to see what the 4 door model looks like.

I'm saving up now to buy an 08' 4 door. Would prefer to be able to buy a truck version though.
I realy like the multi-part hard top...will be alot easier to remove by myself...having the wife help with the LJ hardtop is a bit of a challenge.

What I want to know is why they tooled up the Pacifica's 3.8L V6 (from a transverse FWD application) for the new TJK instead of using the existing 3.7L
The 3.8 is a much better engine. It's a true V-6 as opposed to a V-8 with a couple cylinders cut off like the 3.7. It has a lot more power and weights less. Gas mileage will be better that the 3.7 and it's also narrowor that the 3.7 which means you should have more room for stuff under the hood like OBA. I think people will like the 3.8. BTW If I'm not mistaken the Pacficia has the engine mounted like the other big cars. Inline with the chassis. Still has a transaxle, but I think the motor is is straight as opposed to transverse. Bob

Those options are awesome, I just wish they had those come standard with the current TJ.

DickensCPA's statement about the DC vs. Hummer lawsuit got me curious, so I did some quick research. Found this article from 5 years ago:

Brad,
i can't remember all the specifics now, but Jeep prettymuch lost the case. The hummer argument that won was that Jeep didnt complain or sue when the H1 came out. (it was such a small production vehicle, i guess DC didnt want to give 'em press)...
So hummer continues making Jeep knockoffs...

The grill seems a little odd, but overall I like it! Just think, with the 32" tire you might be able to squeeze in a set of 35s with maybe 2-3" in lift. It seems like with Jeep Wrangler you can always go up one size with no lift, so going to 35s may not require much suspension work.
I am curious about how the top comes off and how the soft top version will look.
Can't wait to see one in person.
