Actual stock rim width - 17x7.5 or 17x8

Most people on here say that the stock JK 17 inch rims are 17x7.5 however the build sheet on my '08 JK Unlimited X states that they are 17x8. So what gives?

Forgive me if this has been covered already. I've searched but haven't been able to find the answer.

Yeah, we've had this discussion on here before and it left a lot of people scratching their heads....I had an '07 and it was 17x7.5/6.25" BS.....a lot of other people confirmed this.....and then others started posting that they had 17x8/5.5" BS. Maybe there are/were two different rims produced, maybe different years (most that had the 17x8 were '10 owners)?

Where on the back are they stamped? Can you see it with a tire mounted on the rim? I will check mine when I pick up the jeep on Tuesday.

Interesting. The build sheets I have are for an 08 and an 09 and they both say 17x8. I am picking up the 08 on Tues, so I will check to see if they are marked.

The wheels I have don't have tires mounted at the moment but if I remember right its on the backside where the spokes are. I think with a flashlight and the wheel in the right position it should be visible with tires mounted and on the Jeep.

The stock wheels are stamped 17x7.5"... and 44.45mm offset. This translates to 6.0" of backspacing, NOT 6.25" like is commonly and falsely spread around the forums.

The stock base wheels are 16x7.0" and the offset isn't stamped onto them but when I measured them myself I got 5.75" of backspacing.

I got my information directly from Chrysler stud....so if anyone is spreading false information, its the manufacturer

I checked mine, and just as WXman said, they are marked "17x7.5" and "44.45 offset", even though my build sheet specifically says 17x8 wheels.

So that's where the confusion comes from. As Capper5016 said, "if anyone is spreading false information, its the manufacturer"

I suppose the only way to know for sure would be to measure them, but my guess is that the info cast into the wheel is probably correct.

My window sticker only says 17 inch wheels. The build sheet specifically says 17 x 8 inch wheels. I looked at the back of my spare tire/wheel and the wheel is stamped 17.5

I'm sure that clears everything up !
