You have read correctly. The break is at 3.73 Below that, you'll need a carrier swap to get to 5.13 on a dana 30.

not trying to hijack, but since you are talking about 5.13s and a D30 what the hell....

Is having 5.13s in the D30 more prone to breakage than installing 4.88s?

Having higher gears always make them more prone to stripping, as there is less surface area for the teeth. I havent seen any reports of it so I guess it hasnt been a big problem. In early 07 they didnt even make 5.13's for d30 for this very reason.

I guess adding a locker in the mix would just be dump then huh?

I don't think adding a locker would hurt a thing.

At least two-thirds of our miseries spring from human stupidity, human malice and those great motivators and justifiers of malice and stupidity: idealism, dogmatism and proselytizing zeal on behalf of religous or political ideas.

I have had 5.13s in my front 30 with ARB lockers, for over two years now. I've never had a single problem with this setup.

Well adding a locker will always create less wheel slip wich will cause more stress on the gears and axle. Just depends on how heavy your foot is and the climbing you do. Ive seen people break d60 axles turning 37"s and I have seen people running 37"s using upgraded d30's have no problems for years, most always carry a spare axle though.....
