4 door JK

All,
My wife and I have a 2 dr JK. She hates putting our son in the car seat in the back seat due to the lack of room. I've promised her we'll buy a 4 dr JK once we return to the US (stationed in Belgium). She's not too convinced there'll be much of a room gain with the 4 dr, and has asked me to consider a Grand Cherokee instead. I am stuck on Wranglers though...Any feed back from 4 dr JK owners pertaining to room....especially with families, would be great.
Thanks

I will be getting my 4dr JK hopefully next week, and I am going from a 94 ZJ. Compaired the dimensions to the new JK 4dr before I ordered it. JK Unlimited was taller, longer, wider, more cargo space, weight, ground clearence, etc than my 94 ZJ. Not sure about the new Grand Cherokee, might need to research some. I did take the family (wife and two kids, one in car booster seat) to the dealership and they fit fine. I would say it was similer to what my ZJ is or maybe a little bigger.

I went from a TJ to a 4 door JK for the same reason, my son who was 2 when I bought the JK in 07, it was hard getting him into the back of the Jeep but with the 4 door it is soo much easier and he loves the jeep, lots of room for him in the back seet and there is also a trunk to take all the family stuff along with us

The JK Unlimited has a lot more leg room, AND more cargo room.

Its definitely worth it.

If you need empirical evidence, just go to the specs for the JK's and do a side by side comparison...and to the Grand.

If the grand has any more room, do a cost per inch on the difference to justify the JK.

The 4-door has a TON of room.

We have a 6 year old and a two year old and I can put the front seats back in a comfortable position and still have tons of room for the car seats.

I had a Hummer H3 and the amount of space inside is almost double in the Jeep.
Love it.

I have three kids, two in boosters and all three will fit in the rear seat. It's not as nice as the space in the minivan but the van keeps getting stuck when I take it wheeling

I also have 3 kids and at one time put 2 car seats in the rear with the 3rd child sitting between them, with everyone buckled up. There is a guy who has a 2 dr JK and he is mad he didn't get the 4 dr because it is a hassle to still get into the back seat. I would say you should be fine, really.

The added space was the driving force behind my decision to go with the 4DR. It's way easier to put a carseat in the back of a 4DR than the 2DR.

If she's stuck on the Grand Cherokee, it's probably a critter comfort issue, which the GC has over any of the Wrangler models. I went with the Sahara so my wife could have the power doors/windows and some of the other critter comforts.

First of all, thanks for your service. The 4 door JK has plenty of room for kids and all of the thier stuff. I would also recommend you look for a JK with half doors if you like to ride with the top down, thats just my opinion though. Oh and bring back some Belgium beer.

JK 4 door here, two children and 0 complaints. Sounds like you made your mind up, but put this in your toolbox just in case they park the Grand on the same showroom floor when the Mrs. goes with...

A few years ago (we take long family trips in the JK) while in Minnesota on July 4th, we were searching for a spot to watch a fireworks display. We ended up parking next to a row of cars on a hill, pulled back the top and watched from the comfort of our own seats by looking up. Almost every guy who had a family in tow and noticed us made a remark about how cool it was to just look up, rather than fighting for a space to park and set up the lawn chairs or blankets.

That's a memory that the wife and kids still occasionally mention.

Jeeps are cool.

You cant do that with a hardtop, or sunroof.

Oh, and I forgot one more thing. We won the rat race to get out of that area and were on our way to the hotel before traffic even started to back up.
Happy kids and a rockstar parking spot at the hotel that night, Priceless!

I actually have the grand cherokee limited and the JK 4 door and both are great! I will have to say that the JK seems to actually have a little more room in the back. We have 2 kids under 5 years of age and they both love the JK and have plenty of room. The Grand does ride smoother and not as noisy but the JK is just plane FUN!
