33's on 15's?--OR--33's on 17's?

So I have decided to not use wheel spacers and go with rims that have backspacing. I cant decide on getting 17 inch rims with backspacing, or 15 inch rims w/ BS.

Any of you guys have experience running 15 inch rims? What is the advantage of running that size besides price?

not sure if you guys would know the answer to this but....Im prolly gonna go with 15 inch rims with backspacing, instead of keeping my stock 17 with spacers. I just do not want to deal with maintaining them, and to add the peace of mind.

Do you guys know what level of backspacing I should get? my buddy is telling me ideal would be 4.5, but that 4 would work, but no more. I mean does the level of backspacing make all that much of a difference or what? Just curious.....what BS do u think I sould go with?...

I think you should step away from the forum (and your friend) for a few days and just take it off roading and actually see what it needs.

Or... Just get the 33" tires and get in the dirt.

To the OP - careful on the 15's. I have read that you need to confirm they will clear your brake calipers and that many don't.

I believe that the benefit of 15's over 17's is the extra rubber and traction you get when you air down - the extra rubber also helps protect the wheel itself from hard hits.

I'm getting ready to get some wheels and was thinking about 16's instead of 17's but my stock rubi tires still have alot of life in them so i I will get 17's.

Run 17's......As of right now tires for 15's are still pretty cheep but I just spoke with two tire companies (GY and PC) and they said that they will be cutting their selection of tires in the smaller rim size specifically the 15's and 16's so you may save money this time but will soon be paying a premium potentially later on.

Another issue you may want to consider is HWY ride, if your jeep is a daily driver having less side wall will provide a smoother ride on the HWY.

You could split the difference and do 16", pretty easy to find tire sizes for 16" rims and you know they'd clear the brake calipers.

Rim width is more dependent upon what width of tire your running. You'll want 8" width regardless of height if you plan on going with 12" tire width. If you want a narrow tire you can probably just use your stock rims and go with a taller tire. I'm assuming you want taller and wider.

Personally, I think a 9 inch wide wheel with 4.5 inches of backspacing looks perfect on JK's.

I like the look of 15's and also love the price and availability of tires. I ended up with 16's and 33's because I wanted to be 100% sure of caliper clearance
