285s or 315s with 4:10 gears?
 
Hello,

I currently have a 2008 JKU Rubicon (4:10 gears) with a MANUAL transmission. I am looking to get new tires and can't decide between 285 and 315s. My main concern with getting 315s is making it under powered, as the 3.8 doesnt have much balls to begin with. Will my 4:10 gears with manual tranny be good with 315s or will it be to sluggish and underpowered?

There's a big gap between a 285 and a 315 with plenty of sizes in between.

Yes I know that. Ill change the question then... are 315s too much for 4:10 gears and manual tranny? And I dont want just bearable performance. I want good performance both on amd off road. And no im not regearing.

From my understanding it is mostly the tire width that causes a decrease in performance. But ill just say 315 70 17s.

Yes, 35's are too much for the 3.8 and 4.10 gears.

It will be a slug with 315s. I have a 2009 JK unlimited Rubicon (manual transmission) and it was marginal with 285s (33"). If you go with 35" tires you'll want to change to 4.88 or 5.13. Changing gears was the best mod I've done.

Yeah I have a feeling you're right. Does anyone know what the best tire size would be for a my 08' JKU Rubi with manual tranny? To get maximum performance.

I have a 2 dr rubicon (4:10s) with manual transmission. I'm runninig 315/75R/16 without any problems.

I thought it was best with the 255/75/17 and ok with 285/70/17 when I had 4.10 (manual transmission and 3.8). It's all subjective. Some will say 3.21 and 35s is perfect. Any reason you're against gearing?

Don't really feel like spending $1200.

You can get KM2's at 285/75-17, about 34" Diameter. not as wide but...

Toyo MT's and Nitto both make 285/75/17's. It's a great size! A bit of height, but not real wide.
