2013 Jeep Wrangler JKU Limp Mode

Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

2013 Rubicon JKU no drivetrain mods, stock tires and wheels. 47K miles. Auto Transmission.

For about the last week, I notice a little bit of an odd shift pattern to the trans. I have been driving it, kinda trying to figure out when it does it, and how to replicate the odd feeling shift.

I don't want to take it to the dealership and trust the techs to even know what I am talking about, until I can take them for a ride and show them.

The best I can describe what has been happening, is that it has a hard down shift at a time that it would not be under heavy throttle, then it shifts back up again. It really seems like a minor thing that you an over-look, but then I keep thinking it may lead to something more troublesome down the road.

So, as I am driving it today, I suddenly feel like it has no power, and isn't downshifting at all under hard throttle. So I take it home and read up in the manual.

I guess the transmission went into limp mode, which is something I have never heard of or read about until today. I let it sit, and started it up again and it is not in limp mode anymore. I haven't really driven it any more after that. I don't feel like getting stuck somewhere.

I put a code reader on it, and it doesn't throw any codes. Is there something common I can look for or change?

Anybody had this type of problem?

Thanks folks!

Go online to Jeep site and see if your rig is due for a recall. I may have recently seen a tranny re-flash post. May have to take a trip to the dealer.

It obviously doesn't like something. Also, I just change my fluid and filter, and a very qualified master mechanic said to do this every 50 k miles. Maybe that would also help.
I don't recommend doing the filter change yourself, it was a serious pain and dirty job. The dealer wants $280 for it, but a local shop will do it for $200.

Looks like all I have is the Heated Power Mirror Fire Hazzard Recall.

I have searched and seen a bunch of posts that dealers haven't been able to replicate the trans issues and without a code can't seem to offer any fix.

Maybe I will let them flash the trans, I wonder if they will do that?

I just used a little Bosch code reader that wouldn't surprise me at all if it missed something.

Have you had the updates done? I haven't ever done that at a dealer, do they charge you and would it show up as an open recall or probably not?

I had the updates done under warranty. The last update was just done earlier this month. I think you have to pay for them otherwise. I'm using the SuperChips FLASHPAQ to adjust the tire size in the computer and read any codes. It also has plenty of engine and performance tuning options and will store the factory programming. But if you's is truly in some limp mode then you really need to have it looked at. It might be programming. It might be more.

It was truly in limp mode. I took it to the dealer today, and they could see the incident on their scanner. They followed Chrysler protocal for the error codes and flashed two modules with new software.

Drove it home, and then drove it around a little and it began the hard shifting again.

So, I have to find a way to escalate this to Chrysler, the dealer said unless it throws a code, they can't do anything. Such crap, but I don't blame the dealer, I blame Chrysler.
