2012 Wrangler cupholders: Good Gawd!

2012 Wrangler cupholders: Good Gawd!

How in the heck do you remove the rubber cupholders in the center console? I tried to clean up some dried coffee this morning and ended up fighting with this thing for 20 minutes before I gave up. Too hard to clean in place and too difficult to get it out of the console.

I thought the rubber sleeve would just pull out but no way. It has a small flange that fits into a slot the runs around the inside of the plastic console. But thatís not all. There are extra vertical pieces at points around the flange that slip into slots inside of the slot. You canít see them but if you wrestle the cupholder out in one spot youíll see the extra tabs.

I suppose the answer is to try to clean it ďin placeĒ but thatís not easy either.

Anyone solve this problem?

Mine worked when I just pulled.

And for the record, I'm probably judging you for your bad grammar or spelling.

I like the new style cup holders; they are an improvement over the previous holders. I havenít tried to remove mine yet and probably wonít even try after what you just said. One thing that was nice about the previous holders though is that they just pulled out with no problem.

You pulled the rubber boot out or the top of the console off to access the rubber cupholders?

Did you trim off the vertical rubber pins or how did you get it back together?

You do have a 2012 model correct? My 2010 the two rubber boots just lifted out. The 2012 is completely different.

grab the bottom of the console and pull upward (with some oomph) on the entire front half section of the center console, it will pop up and raise up and allow access to the cup holder lining.

then to put the console back on, push it down until you hear all the clips snap back in.

Wondered about such a method but didn't try. Thanks!

I don't have anything to offer, but after driving a 2012 as a rental I can definitely say the cup holders were one of the many improvements to the interior. I remember the complaining when the new interior photos came out, but I think it is a definite improvement.

I lied. Must've been remembering my TJ's cupholder.
