2012 Jeep Unlimited HEAT

Hey fellow Jeepers.

Bought a 2012 Jeep Wrangler unlimted in June, Me and wife have been happy with it so far until last week. Had a cold spell come thru. Wife went to use heat, but no hot air on drivers side just cold air, passenger side vents are blowing 50 degrees hotter air. Took to Hall Jeep in VA Beach, they said they have never seen this before. Service guy found dark colored antifreeze and was advised by Techs at Chysler/Jeep HQ to change oil cooler than flush system. If that does not work to replace Heater core. I'm not to concerned about the Money cause this is all covered under warranty. Have any of you heard this before or seen it. OIIIIIO

Just common sense tells me that if the JK is blowing hot air on one side and not the other, the heater core is fine and the vent delivery system is not working....just saying, you know...

Thats what I said to the Service manger. But I guess it appears they found another issue with the antifreeze (only 9000 miles).

So OBXJEEPN, did you ever get the heating problem fixed and what did it turn out to be?

Update, Picked up Jeep last Saturday. They changed oil cooler first and then flushed Antifreeze 3 times, improved heat by 15 degrees, than they ordered a new heater core and replaced, I guess the inside of the heater core was coated with oil. It blows nice warm air now. Only a week and a half for them to figure out. @ nickmonaco check to see ifyour antifreeze has discolored oil in it, if it does than it's proably same symton as mine. Happy JEEP N.

EXACT same problem with mine! Splashing thru some flood water in Va Beach today during hurricane Sandy, I went to straight floor heat. Passenger side smoking hot, I could feel the heat drifting over to my side! I put my hand down and it was quite cool on my side. I will probably print this thread and take it to the dealer!

Not to sound negative, but you may still have an issue. My 2011 blows ridiculously hot air (I wish I had a temperature reading to put it into perspective, but I swear it is hotter then any other vehicle I've been in in my life). If yours blows something you'd describe as "warm" it is far from working properly.

I thought I kinda missed the point here but realized the causal part appears to be oil cooler failure .

like oil cooler (is it part of the radiator?) cracking, then contaminating the antifreeze? common prob on the xterras too..

Sounds to me like two separate problems unless for whatever reason, the wrangler has two heater cores.
The core might have been contaminated with oil (which doesn't make any sense to me), but the difference in temp from side to side is a malfunctioning diffuser system.

Had my heater core replaced at 6,000 miles (first sign of cold weather). Casting sand from manufacturing is clogging them up. I finally get hot air out of all the vents now, not just the right side. It's a common problem.
